In the doghouse...
So, yesterday after about 7 months in the hobby, I got the "you love your planes more than me" speech from my wife[X(]
Now, I tried my best to wiggle myself out of this argument, but I don't think she bought it[
]
Better get a good Christmas present for her this year

This is my first year of R.C. too but my wife of 37 years knew that I flew models as a kid. We were kind of kids when we got married. Anyway, I had to shelf the hobby for many years. We both enjoy our horses and playing golf and have friends in both. The six months before I actually jumped into R.C. I told my wife that is what I was going to do. I have an extra income during the spring and summer months so it is not a drain on the household budget. She was afraid that I was losing interest in horses which is her lifetime love. I am proving to her that is not the case. I am not doing any flying on weekends when we play golf and/or ride horses. I fly during the week in the evenings. Now that the weather and day light savings time is gone, I have done some weekend flying but the weather was not good for golf or riding either. So far its working. I am in this for the long haul so I have to be patient. I think as long as I don't over do it, it will work for us. But a nice Christmas present won't hurt either........ Good luck!!!!

I don't fly during the weekends either, only weekdays after work for an hour or two, and usually twice a week.... but then I'm lucky I live 3 minutes from the field... Not flying on weekends and spending it with the family seems to work well and she doens't mind flying on the weekdays...

I got myself a mistress. Now when I'm caught sneaking out and the wife asks where I am going I say "to see my girlfriend." She says "you big liar...you are going to fly those stupid airplanes."

Tell her you could be playing poker with the guys, going to strip clubs, coming home in a drunken stupor. That might work. Of course, if you already do these things, you better get her a nice present.

She feels your neglecting her and your priorities are not in sync. So give her all the time she wants until she is smothered in it and just wants you to get out for a while so she can have some time for herself.

The thing is, it wasn't even the flying so much since I only go once a week after work and occasionally on weekends. Supposedly I spent too much time with reading model magazines, building, browsing the web etc. when at home. It's an addictive hobby!

You guys should have met your wife like I did, at a model boat race(or the flying field). She knew exactly what she was getting into and she lets me play on a pretty regular basis. Over the last couple years she bought me a new boat for our anniversary one year and bought my trainer, radio and engine for an early christmas present this year. I can't complain.
BTW: I also treat her like a princess as much as possible.

Man, I have friends that have gone through that. Explain to her that while you are in the shop working on the plane or at the field, your friends are out drinking and watching other women.
Invite her to go along. Do something she likes more, but if she is good, keep her happy! THE DATING WORLD SUX!!!!!!

Mine's pretty reasonable, but occasionally puts the "brakes" on when I have a building/flying marathon....... [&o]
She knows what my priorities are - and she reminds me when necessary!
She doesn't fly(except once), and comes out to the field from time to time - to make sure I'm "really" flying!

I have been married to the same doll for 62 years. As for the modeling thing, I was building and flying before we even met and she knew that I wasn't about to give it up. She just knows by the day of the week if I'm going to the pond to sail, or to the field to fly. I try to buy her little things once in awhile to keep her happy. Trouble with that is she only likes two things, clothes and diamonds and her closet is full. When the credit card bill comes in I just tell her it's so high because of the things I bought for her. Never mention any of the model websites in our house.

My first wife did everything with me when we were dating. After we got married all she wanted to do was stay home or go to her sisters. Finally she left me for a guy in AA. My new wife is very supportive of my hobbies and pretty much lets me fly whenever. She's an angel.

I am very fortunate. My wife doesnt mind at all and even listens to my mindless babble while I debate on what airplane I want next. Sometimes she even goes out to the field with me. The only time I get in the doghouse is when I spend too much time surfing the internet for RC stuff.

Do what we all are doing now--do the internet thing at work!!! That way you don't have to do it when you get home, and everyone is happy. Flying doesn't bother my wife as much as looking through web page after web page and rcuniverse! That really started bothering her about a month ago, so I quit doing it so much at home. Of course, my work has gone to heck, but that's another story!![8D]

I buy, build and fly all the airplanes my credit card can handle.

What kind of meteorological phenomenon would make good flying, but bad horseback or golf weather? Just wondering, especially about the horses thing, 'cause my wife loves riding hers, and I get to be the designated hauler when she wants to ride somewhere other than around the farm (if you could ever watch her try to drive a crewcab dually with a 30 foot gooseneck, you'd completely understand why I designate myself as hauler); but it seems like you can ride in almost any weather, but flying is more limited; however, the weekends when the sun is out, no wind , and mild temps is when she wants to go the most. If I could get her to go ride in the pastureland we fly over, I'd be set.
