Wow, it's been a while since I've been able to post[&o], or do anything for that matter. Kids have been sick and I've got wood working projects backed up and the wife wanting me to justify all the tools I've bought lately. So I've been doing that.
The Cessna is still in the closet, pretty close to finishing her up. Can't wait.
How's everyone else doing? Anyone get any flying time, new toys, anything?
Talk to you guys later, hopefully with pics and a short video of the maiden...

Hi Way up there, the clear " Shoe Goo" works great as a replacement glue and stays a little flexible as opposed to using 2 part expoxy where desired. Buy the small tubes as it doe's not hold up well in the tube after opening it after a few weeks. I am sure you will be happy with it's performance. Let me know how you make out.

Hi VF, got up at 5am this morning to work on the plane. Wife and baby are sleeping so it's the only time I can get uninterupted ( I know you know what I'm saying). Anyhow, got a bad sinus cold and did not get to work on the plane this week so I am not ready to fly it this weekend but got a couple pics for ya. First I figured it would be hard to get at and work on the servo's so I opened the area a bit and because I am one not to ever want to permantley mount things ( so the can be repaired easily) I placed 2 thin plastic strips so that I could screw the servo's down instead of gluing them. Plus it gives the servo's a nice clean edge to rest againist. I do know of the shrink wrap and glue trick but thought this would work better. The Styrene Sheet plastic is made by "Evergreen" and is 5x12" by .040 " thick and I have used it for other models as well. Also I drilled some airflow holes in the firewall to help reduce drag. Because with the holes in the front of the cowl cut out there is no where for the air to go ? So this will also help with keeping the motor,ESC and battery cooler as well. The last pic is just a fuse shot of how it looks right now. Hope to hear from you and see how your coming along. Later

Kevin,
It looks GOOD!!! Sorry to hear about the sinus infection! Went through a bought of that a month or so ago. HOpe everyone feels better soon.
Yea make sure you get pics if you get her up in the air!! I am taking the wife and kids to b-fast this morning then I have to watch them while she goes shopping. I might get to work on it some when/if they lay down for naps. Tomorrow is shot in the as* as well. Oh well, family first.
If I could just find a way to stay up really late and still be functional the next day like in highschool!!
Man, I'm getting old.
I like your idea about the plastic strips! Gonna have to give that a try. Also, what's the other trick you were talking about? I don't think I've ever heard of it.
I got my catalog from DuBros the other day too. I'm going to have the LHS order some of the hinges we talked about. I don't know if I told you or not but I got a GWS A-10 and P-51 on a really good trade deal so I'll be assemblling those later in the spring. I think it will be a while before I'm able to handle either one of them.
K, wife is foaming at the mouth, I think I need tget her some food, LOL. Gotta go.
Talk later!
Phil

Hey man good to hear from ya. I only have 1 3 yr old and can't imagine trying time to build more than 1-2 planes a year with 2 !!!! your doing awesome. I fall asleep early now too and if I get a good 4-6 hours in then I get up early to work a little on the plane, it's 6:30 am now. I am 40 now and remember the time when I could go DAY'S without sleep. The other trick for the servos is to heat shrink shrink wrap ( recievers too) around them and then glue your servo down. then just cut the shrink wrap for repairs etc.... and redo. Awesome on the new planes !!! I was just watching the A10 videos this past Friday at work on eflightline.com and have always thought that was a great model. The P51 will be bad to the bone too and if you go brushless/LiPo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I think my next 2 builds will be my combat wing from Atlanta Hobby and a scratch built Boeing 747 airliner from one of the 4ft wingspan foam gliders at the hobby shops. Going to use the GWS ducted fans etc... heres a link you GOTTA check out to one I hope to own one day ( always have wanted one of these types of plane to fly ) http://edfmodel.com. My buddy "V" just got the Ultrafly F-16 and I hope to see the kit tonight, he said the kit was really nice and that with the new brushless MTR they're coming out with that it will go verticle UNLIMITED !!!! He also has the BAE Hawk that he is starting to build. He also just custom built a parkzone Styrker and I am going to post the pics of it and will let you know. I have a Styrker as well and I tell you that it will be hard to beat that plane out of the box!!!! takes a beating and flies like hell. I love mine and you can fly it on the windy days. And do me a favor and send me the link to LHS I would like to check out they're site. Hers a couple pics of what I did to reinforce the control horns to the control surfaces instead of using the screws that came with ( mine were not all there) so I had to come up with someting anyhow. Later man ! PS . you can also see where I used velcro to hold down the wing servo so that I could swap them out easily between both wings ( I am going to use a Y servo cable as well.

I took my 182 out today for her maiden and I really liked the way it flew. I think this is the nicest foamy kit I have seen so far. The instructions leave a lot to be desired but overall I think it is a super kit! I'm using a Kokam 1500 mah 11.1 v lipo. I'm trying to find the best prop for it right now.

Hey Mukradio thanks for the post and I echo Phil's comments....let's see some pics man !!! also what Mtr , ESC, etc are you using and what wing did you use for the madien. I am going to use the begginer wing and larger prop just to trim the plane out and experiment with a couple different batteries. Then use the sport wing and 8" prop. I did get a lot done this weekend so the plane will be ready for sure this weekend. Hey both you guy's did either of you go with the tricycle gear set-up ? Just curious as I am going too but have to reconfiqure as I cut the plastic support bars for the battery because I am going to use bigger non flat type packs...Will post the pics when done later.....Kevin

Wing wiring harness and close up of where I drilled holes thru the wing hinges and CA'ed a toothpick in to keep it from ever pulling out. After the CA dried I just snipped it flush and only did the hinges near the control horns. I did this because of the brushless as I know I will be pulling some fast G's AND THERE WILL BE SOME SERIOUS STRESS OOOPPSS

I wanted a sterable nose gear. NOTE if you install it per the intructions you will only be able to steer to the right. I did some mods so that I could steer left as well.

Muy Excellente!!!
Definitely worth the effort, eh? Man, i'm jealous! I've been working like a mad man the last couple of weeks on everything BUT my plane. I can't wait to get back to it...
I think I'm "grounded" indefinitely right now though. Lot of things going wrong right now
Oh well. Have fun!

When I call back I will be sure to check that all is cool to talk on your end. Later

It seems the Ultrafly 182 is not that much of an "ARF" from some of the comments and pics I've seen. I can build but I just don't have the patience to put hours into a foam plane. I was considering the Art-Tech Cessna 182 which is an "RTF" but I've heard so many negatives when it comes to the flying characteristics. The plane looks great as does the Ultrafly model so I'm still trying to decide which one.

Nick, the Ultrafly Cessna fly's great but it is a lot of work for a foam plane for sure. The Art-tech Cessna almost appears to be the same plane at least from all of the photos I've seen on the spare parts page. In fact, the fuze, stab and rudder are exact. The only differance I see is the wheel pants and they must have painted the one that is used to advertise. A friend of mine is thinking about getting one so I will be sure to let you know the deal.
