Default old battery.

I used to fly a sail plane with a conquest FP-T4NBF that's been in my closet for maybe 10 years? seldom used. Now that i have the time i want to get into glow planes.I'm looking at the ARF Avistar,to cut costs ,it is safe to put that old batteries in the Avistar.I Just charged them and seen fine to me.If not, what would match my TX and receiver batteries. Thank you.

My gut reaction is it's not worth using the old batteries. However, if you run them through several charge discharge cycles and they appear to have good capacity, go ahead and use them. If it were me, I'd replace them. Actually, it was me last May when I started flying again after being out of the hobby for a long time. I had 4 old transmitters that were not even narrow band. When I looked at the cost of new nicads and sending the transmitters in for narrow banding and to get them checked out, I just decided to go with a new radio. You can get an entirely new 4 channel radio system for about $100. Even better, if you can afford a bit more, is to spend another $50 or so and get a 6 channel computer radio.

I would be very leary of batteries that old. At least run them through a cycler a couple of times and, if they are providing at least 80% of their rated capacity, you could probably get by. Also check to see if they self discharge at a normal rate as there may be seperator deterioration that will increase the self discharge rate to an accessive amount. New batteries would just be cheap insurance.
