no problem using different frequency. but as far as i know, pcm you cannot use. you need to set both on ppm. i'm not sure why that is but i tried with a pcm tx master, ppm tx student setup and wouldn't work in pcm. only after putting it on ppm did it work

And of course, make sure the master is the one whos channel matches the RX.

[8D]With Futaba and Airtronics brands the buddy box switch is left "off" and doesn't need a crystal or batterys. In fact its better off to not have them in. JR is a different beast. The buddy box needs a battery pack.
