I have been looking to build a new plane and one motor that comes up with some is a GWS motor. What is this? Whats the difference between a 380 brush motor or any other motor? Is it brushless? Please help me out with this! It just looks different than the other motors. Thanks!

GWS sells several different motors in various sizes, including 350's and 400's plus others. I don't know how to ID them, but if you hunt around or post in the electric forums or over on ezone, you'll probibly find someone who can be more speicific.

I have many of these motors. Basically, a 380 is the same as a speed 400 motor. These are brushed motors. Which is the reason you can buy 'em for less than $10. Just about all the 250, 370, 400, 480, 500, 550, 600 and 700 motors are manufactured by Mabuchi in Japan. If you look at a Graupner or a Permax motor, Mabuchi most likely made them.
However, brushless motors are much different in that they are more efficient and use much stronger magnets. But, they will cost up to 8 times the cost of a brushed motor. Example.....zagi flying wing, speed 400 motor, 20 amp esc and a 5.5x4 prop....power system
run ya $10 for the motor, 25 to 30 for esc. Brushless, a mega 16\15\4 turn will run $89. Then you need brushless esc which is about 79 bux itself. A brushless motor will also last 100's of times longer than a brushed motor and will give your plane the "zing" its lookin for!!!! Plus, you will experience a longer run time than you would if you had a brushed motor.
