How do I add right thrust and down thrust to my new plane? Is there an easy solution? Do I angle the firewall? Do I add washers under the engine mount? Do I add washers behind my engine mount? Please help!
Thanks

bigdanusa,
What plane are you building? Check your instructions/plans first. A lot of kits/ARF's/plans will have the right trust built into the plane itsef, but usually have to add the down thrust. If you do use it, you can add it in by putting washers between the motor mount and the firewall.
Hope this helps.

I'm going to build the Great Planes Easy Sport 40 Kit .40-.46,59.2" and stick the O.S. .46 AX ABL on it.

On it's way but I'll look the plans over good before I start it. Thanks

I doubt those two Airplanes would need downthrust... (Doubt, don't know for sure)

If you want to add right and down thrust then in facing the engine, place a washer behind the upper right mount/standoff for the engine. This will give up more right and down thrust.

What I said is correct.
Facing the engine, you place the washer in the upper right corner to get down and right thrust.

"Upper right" is not quite correct. When talking about left and right we should refer to the sides of the plane looking in the direction the plane flies. So in order to add right thrust the washer should be placed behind the upper left mounting hole of the engine mount (between the engine mount and firewall). In fact I would place two washers there, one between the upper right engine mount hole and firewall, one between the lower left and none between the lower right engine mount hole and the firewall.

Don't get bent out of shape over this. It wont hurt a bit if your engine is dead straight & level. The plane will be flyable & you can start incrementally shimming from there. If there is any question about how much of either one needed, & you dial some in from the start, it is more difficult to find out where you are & make a corrective fix.

Geistware.....I'll take your advise with washers in the upper right corner when "facing" the plane. Thanks for the simple advise.
Of all the plans I have seen that I have had, "none" of them has told me "How" to build the "thrust" into it.
The hardest part for me in building, is setting up the engine for the proper thrust!
And the other hard part I experience is "cleaning" them up after a day of flying!
Thanks
Big Dan "da rcdummy".....lol

britbrat .... you are right!
I've been flying planes with a little "left" and "up" thrust in them and I seem to maintain control. Maybe the skill level of flying has something to do with that! I just thought it would be nice to build it the "right" way and have the proper thrust in it.
Thanks for all the help.

Hi!
On most airplanes (low winged) you don't need downtrust and certainly not right trust!
If you want it ...just add washers behind the motor mount.
Most low winged sport and racing airplanes follow the 0,0,0 rule (engine, wing, stab 0 degrees).
