A p-51 might not have been the BEST way to start. it is possible to train on one, but will be quite hard

Welcome to RCU, you may want to put that p-51 on a shelf for a while. Get yourself a nice high wing trainer to start with. Then get a low wing trainer.
After you master these you can think about the p-51.

don't take this the wrong way but A P-51 is an advanced model. With a hot .61 sized engine that plane is going to be around 100mph flat out in level flight and most likely snappy at low speeds. Do you possess the skills necessary to fly it.

If so Radio choice will be dictated by # of functions best Guess 4 ch minimum with 6ch reccommended Brand is more of a personal preference.

Default RE: Help

P-51 will be a major handful. Nitro planes are much faster than electric and P-51's are in the higher end of that range (not counting jets). PLEASE get a high wing trainer, they do make 60 size trainers and it is true that they are easier to see and more stable as a rule than the smaller ones. From there you can move up to a low wing plane or two and finally to the P-51. Most military scale planes can be tricky to fly. Since you have electric experience you will advance quickly but not instantly. the landing approaches will be much different and faster.
Good luck.
