HI all,
Im not new to this forum. I just want to take some time and explain how my flying is going. HAving mastered the trainer, im on the quest for obtaining three signatures that qualify me as a solo. TOday i found the second instructor and got my membership cared signed. THe third one will probably next week. THis day has been my greatest flying day to date. I had the best luck with the weather. THe forecast said that it will rain all day, but to my surprise, not a cloud in the sky. I told my parents to drop me off today, because it will be a great day. And what a great day it was! Having not gone to the field in a while due to poor weather conditions, i came today and saw something beautiful. THe trees were green, and the landing strip was SMOOTH, GREEN, AND FRESHLY CUT GRASS. My instructor came in late, like always, but i already prepared for starting the engine before. HE brought his BEAUTIFUL P-51 WWII Mustang. It was very well built and i couldn't wait to see it in the air. GOt a few flights down, all solo. My instructor wanted to try some spot landings with my trainer, so i let him borrow it. DId i tell you what a disastrous day it was for other fellow flyer's? Next week is our funfly, so since there were so many people today (weather), we decided to put up two poles and connect them with a string and play a little game of limbo. I took some time off to see the planes go through. Seemed to me like fun, but then it was just awful. A guy had his trainer go through it but instead of going between the poles, his wing SMACKED right into the pole. God what a site to see. NExt victim, a BEAUTIFUL piper cub, possibly a 70 inch wingspan. Stable smooth flyer, totaled in the pole engine first, OUCH. A guy brought n a SPAD, and ended up with a SPLAT. JUst kidding, those planes are durable, the plane was a pizza box and it smacked straight into the pole, but the plane didn't the break. the engine flew right off. I can see that spads are durable, VERY durable. THere were a few more crashes that day, but here is the best part. My instructor finally took his P-51 for a flight. Flew Beautiful, STABLE and i could believe it. Once it was a quarter way into its flight, he gave the transmitter to me, and BOY what a feeling. Those planes are stable, on reduced controls though. It flew great with the wing, roles were absolutely magnificent. My instructor flipped the retract switch and asked me to land. So i did, no fuss, it was easy, but a broke his prop. Showing good sportsmanship, i gave him one of my spare ones. So to conclude, i can tell you that it was a hell of a day,. and i think that i can handle a warbird now. So beginners, all alike, this hobby is the best one there is, and its even better if you get a chance to fly your instructors PLANE. Its a little test, to see how well my nerves take it wile flying some other guys plane, and knowing that if i crash, big bucks will fly out of my green savings box in my shelf. Dont quite the hobby if you crash, keep going. I would recommend getting two planes, doesn't matter what are they, just as long as you keep flying after one crashes, it keep your spirits up.

That is great to hear. Sounds like your instructor is pretty comfortable with your skills to hand you a warbird and have you land it...that's incredible and a tribute to what you can do at this point in your training.

That would be awsome. Sometimes people are odd though.
I have a friend who got a plane, and he wanted a War plane, yet he hadn't soloed. But, he wanted a war plane. His father went to a trade meet and got him a rtf ugly stick. The kid hated it because it didn't have retracts, yet he hadn't even soloed yet. I just had to get it off my chest. If someone brought me a plane home like that. I wouldn't care if it was a park flyer. I would be so happy.

All I can figure is he may be one of those that no matter what you do he cannot be pleased.
BTW, Ken is waitng to here from you about the plans.

Coming to what pilot chad said, what a crummy little guy. If i got any plane at all, i would be more then happy to fly it and enjoy it to the fullest extent. Just want to show you what my trainer looks like and what i flew (mustang). By the way, back then, the weather was horrible. THose pictures weree taken ate winter, if i brought my camera yesterday, you would have loved the field, its so green.

This is one of the best threads I've read in awhile.
Samalot, I'm truly happy for you. You've had some great experiences in this hobby, and you're sure to have many more.
Some day you'll also be able to share it with someone else that's new. The feeling you get from that is just about as good as what you're feeling now.
