Default aileron alignment issues

I just got a new wing set and am finding that the aileron does not line up on one side. On the inside it's about 1/16th of an inch too high, but the outside is fine, so it looks like the hing slots where cut wrong:

This also means that there is a 1/16" lip about 12 inches long the wind will hit on one wing. Will this cause major trimming issues? Is this something that needs to be fixed before I fly? Also how would I fix it? I'm going to email tower right now and ask for a new wing.

Thanks,

schu

I'd wait on others to respond before taking my word for it but I think it will be fine. You might need some minor trim changes but unless this is a plane thats going to fly well over 100 mph it should be fine. Just listen for flutter though on high speed passes. What kind of plane is this?

It's a tower trainer. Basically a Hobbico SuperStar Select. The ailerons seem to work fine, perhaps I'll fly it and see how it does, but I wanted to double check first.

On a fast plane, or a plane that I intend to go fast, this would be an issue. I would re-do the hinges. But since this is a trainer, and the purpose of the plane is not speed, then cleanliness isn't that great of an issue. Sure, it might take a little trim, so what ? It might be so very slight, that you don't even notice it. You can always re-do the hinges later on after you have flown it. But because trainers are slow anyway, this slight defect and the trim required to correct it probably won't cost you even 1 mph. The trainer should fly and perform just fine.

Fly it. It won't hurt a thing.

While this aileron won't be an issue on the trainer, don't get sloppy. I commend you for noticing this and asking if it will be a problem. Like others have said, when you move on to faster planes, these types of things will need to be fixed.

I'm still pretty new at this so I've learned to ask whenever something isn't exactly right. It's amazing how little things can be out of place to cause a crash.

Your first thought to contact Tower Hobbies and get a replacement is by far the best thing to do, even tho it would give you little trouble it will affect the true flight you would expect and Tower is excellent for making things right......... just my two cents

I talked to them and they need to see the wing to replace it. Since it takes 3 weeks for this stuff to ship to AK, that would be 1.5 months without a wing set, so I think I'll live with it.

Yes I see your point... as long as it doesn't bind it would be a trim adjustment thing, a friend of mine got a wing set with his rtf and we had to readjust it, the alerons were way off.... I guess it and yours was made on a friday....... Cptn Crash...

You'll be fine. I doubt you'll even have to trim for it. If the mis-match were at the outboard end of the aileron, then I'd have a little concern, as the outboard portion of the aileron is more effective to the flight of the plane than the inboard.

Best of luck to you and let us know how she flies.
