Default Sig * 60 and transporting

I have a kit for the Sig Star 60 due in tomorrow from Tower Hobby and wanted to know how hard the plane is to transport. I'm not even sure if the plane will fit in the car/s. Can the wings be removed for transport? I guess I should have checked this out first.

Any insight on this would be swell.

Wings are removeable. I believe the wing span ios 71 inches if I'm not mistaken. A buddy of mine transports 2 planes regulary in his Camary. They only have a 63" wingspan though.

I presume this is the Four Star 60 you are talking about. Yes the wing is removeable. It's attached by wing bolts to the fuselage. It's a one piece wing that's 71"span. Thats 6' 11" I suppose if you have a small car then it might be a big wing, but I can put a 4 meter span scale glider in a VW golf so I think you should manage the 4*60. I never heard of an american with a small car yet

Here's a tip, Make a bag for the wing out of Bubble wrap and then you won't damage it when your loading up the car.

That would be 5' 11"! It fits near the roof of the Explorer interior!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it will be a tight fit.

I put mine in a 4 door Dodge Neon. I open the passenger rear door and put the wing on top of the passenger seats headrest with the wing tip on the dashboard. Plenty of room.

Default Another option

As mentioned above, yes the wing comes off the 4*60. However, since you are apparently going to build yours from the kit instead of ASSEMBLING the ARF (Good for you!), you have an advantage, should you decide to take it. I built my 4*60 without the last bay on each wing tip. In otherwords, I have a clipped wing 4*60. Though I did mine that way to improve the roll rate (which it does quite well), it also has the added benefit or making the wing several inches shorter.

If you are concerned that such a mod will make the plane tough to fly, rest assured that it is still VERY well behaved, and in fact will slow down nicely on landing, even without using the flaperons that I sometimes use.

Have fun, it's a great flying plane.

i had a 4*60 and i could not fit it into my 2 door grand prix. It was about 2 inches too long. If i would have clipped a bay on each wing it would have fit.
