OK now I realize that a twin is not a place to start however I recently came into a pair of OS .40 Surpass 4 strokes and an old diecut(missing most of the parts)Duelist 2/40. I really like the plane and want to build one but I am going to buy a new kit. I got both Engines(brand new) for 200 bucks. couldn't pass that deal up.
I want something to fly while I build the other plane(and to motivate me to build) and I am looking for a twin that would allow me to learn the idiosyncracies of flying a twin engine plane while I build the Duelist. I am thinking of tracking down a twinstar but I understand that two .40 4 strokes might be too much for it and the fact that it is discontinued makes it difficult to track down one of these kits.

Can anyone suggest an ARF kit that can handle a pair of .40 4 strokes that might fit the bill? Thanks

Hey Prozach,

I know nothing, absolutely nada about flying twins, however one of our club members is the Twin Engine moderator at RC Warbirds. There is nothing that he, Twinman, doesn't know about running twins and twin engined planes. You will also find him on RC Universe...just look for Twinman in the member search....

PROZACH,

One of the local guys wanted to do the same as you, but he wanted to fly the DC-3. He started with the TWINSTAR and two MAGNUM 53 four strokes. the plane flew very well. I bought the plane when he was done with it (twinstar) and I put two OS-40 FP's on it. Also flew extremely well.

There have been a few of the TWINSTARS for sale here on RCU, do a search, or just go to the for sale/want to buy section and post that you want one.

prozach,,
a TwinStar with two .40's is not really overkill.. 'specially four strokes.. There are many that are up on OS .46 FX's.. As with
anything, it is up to the operator as to how fast it is going..
You give it full throttle it will go fast.. Just remember, a TwinStar has small fuel tanks..

Regarding the small tanks on a Twinstar. What if you put a single larger tank in the fuse ahead of the servo tray, and ran two klunks in it feeding the small tanks using them as header tanks like the heli guys do. Then pressure feed the larger tank via 1 engine (or both, using a checkvalve setup) I just ordered a Twinstar fom "Lewflew" and plan on putting a pair of Magnum .30 4 strokes on it. Should really sound great when they are in sync. But I am concerned about the short flight time folks mention with the tiny tanks in the nacelles. Thanks,
Dwight

A flying buddy of mine has a Twin Star with 2 OS 40 LA's and it flies nice.....the 40 Surpass 4 strokes should be fine.
