Default Newest plane...

Uncle has always said he enjoyed building more than flying...his builds definitely speak to that.

Yesterday, he decided his Sig Hog Bipe (which had only flown once) had gathered enough dust. As a result, she's now my newest plane. Flew her today, and what a joy.

Just thought I'd share a couple of quick pics. Didn't see a 'Photography' or 'Niplanes' forum, so didn't know where else they belonged. Mods, plz move if there's a more appropriate place.

Enjoy.

Gboulton,
[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Beautiful plane. But then again, the Sig Pig is one of my favorite planes too.

Check out the graphics I have on the top of my Hog Bipe. There Calvin graphic comes from a friendly rivalry at our field. The plane guys and heli guys get along at our field, we're just always kidding with each other. this graphic was just some friendly kidding around.

LOL!

Those are AWESOME.

I especially like the pilot. Though, I'm thinking that infinity and beyond is probably just a TAD out of radio range.

Aggie,

I have limited experience here to help you out. I've not flown a bipe before today.

However, I WILL say the following about this one...I noticed NONE of the supposedly 'difficult' characteristics bipes have. I'd been warned that they were very skittish on the ground...not so with this one. I'd also been told they tend to be a bit less stable than say a high wing...again, not that I noticed.

Several reviews I've read suggest the Hog is a perfect first bipe...from what little I've seen so far, I'd have to agree. It was easier to take off, land, and fly than I'd been led to believe bipes are.

Also (and my uncle confirmed this) reviews suggest that the Sig Hog Bipe is an EXTREMELY well designed and engineered kit with excellent instructions. Again suggesting (to me at least) that it would be a good first bipe.

Certainly, Ken and some of the others can shed more light here.

I CAN, however, say that, as my introduction to flying a bipe, it was a very good 'choice'.

Very limited...about three months on the buddy box and a few flgihts off. By the time the plane would be ready to fly, I would have flown a considerable amount of the winter(thinking early next spring for a maiden date?......one nice thing about texas, ill get to fly ALOT this winter.). i intend to convert the trainer to a taildragger (hobbistar...its a semi-symetrical) and learn to land it that way( a ways down the road).

Gboulton, thanks for the opinions, and sorry for the semi thread-jack. if youlld like i will start another thread to ask questions

Nice plane! Wish I could have seen you fly it today. I didn't fly this weekend, worked on my newest Trying to get it done in the next week or so.
(the pic from straight on is the angle - measured and no dihedral (could be the gear bent a little too))

Aggie,

No worries, man. Heck, I didn't know where to start this thread in the first place...if it serves as a discussion of the relative merits of the Hog Bipe as a first biplane, more's the better.

Shakes,

Yeah, I was thinkin' of ya yesterday. Thought you might like this plane. I'm sure we'll run into each other some time this week. Your new one is looking REALLY sharp, man...can't wait to see her fly.
