Hey all, I'm still very new at the whole RC Plane thing and I've been thinking of my next plane. I haven't even solo'd yet but will hopefully be soloing in the next month or two. But since I've had a bunch of down time do to our field being redone I've been kind of "shopping" for my next plane and was thinking of doing something a little different for my 2nd plane. I was thinking of taking a LT-25, removing the dihedral, making it a tail dragger, and upping the engine to like a .40 FX or even a .46 AX. Any thought of how this would work? Or anything else you could think of to make it a rocket.
I was thinking of converting the wing from a flat bottom to a symmetrical wing but would have no clue even where to start.
Let me know what you think. I just think this would be a fun way to get into building of planes and modifying them, before I start getting into the expensive low wing planes.

You should look at a Goldberg Tiger II. It is a great second plane and when you get good at it you can make it into a taildragger.

It does not look fancy, but put a OS .46AX in it and it screams through the sky.
Great Plane!!

On the dihedral: when I built my sons I put the wings together with only 1 1/2" dihedral and the plane handles the wind really well. On the larger engines, don't do it. The plane is quite a floater on landing. I have an OS 32SX on my sonds and even with that engine its hard to get the plane to come down. Even at a slow idle, the 10" prop just keeps pulling the plane along well barely losing any altitude. I know other flyers with a 40Fx on their LT25 and they have an aweful time getting it to land. Half the time they give up and just kill the engine and dead stick it in when they have to land. Since this is to be a 2nd type plane and you are looking at good 46 engines I would agree with Manny and look at the Tiger 2. The kit comes set up so you can use trike gear or tail dragger gear.
