RE: Pay It Forward Build Thread!! Sig LT-40 build
MasterAlex,
Thanks for the help. Now I'm considering doing the top of the wing in orange / white and the bottom of the wing in all white. That would provide a strong contrast for the old going vs. coming perception issue.

Take this for what its worth, one guys' opinion, but I find all or mostly white planes very tough to see. When you're flying staight & level your all white wing bottom and mostly white fuselage bottom will tend to blend into clouds and make it generally hard to see the plane. You may consider front to back stripes on the wing bottom.

RE: Pay It Forward Build Thread!! Sig LT-40 build
Ken,
Great thread and thank you very much. I plan to use your advice to build my 2nd plane.
I have 2 questions about a trainter that I recently got, if you don't mind answering. The trainer is a Hangar 9 Alpha 40.
1 - The wing connects together with an aluminum rod and an alignment pin. The wing slides together and they say to tape them together. What is the pros/cons of just glueing the wing together? other then ease of transporting
2 - If the monokote covering is loose and has bubbles in it will that cause the plane to flutter? I'm getting an iron to tighten it up, but was wondering.
Thanks for doing this thread!!! It has inspired me to do my own build.

Thanks Ken. This is a FANTASTIC thread. I'm looking at diving right into kit building with my second plane (a Sig 4 *) and this thread has helped me get up to speed with kit building tremendously!

Ken:
This really is an awesome thread. I have been looking to get into RC Planes and kit building for a while. Thanks to this thread I have decided to jump in. I am going to start with the smaller version of the plane you built, the Sig Kadet LT-25 Trainer Kit. This will be both my first plane and first kit build. I have put together a list of build items using this thread and using the Tower Hobbies site. There are a dizzying number of items to choose from on the Tower Hobbies site. I have compiled a list and would really appreciate it if you would take a look and let me know if there is anything additional that I need or anything that I do not need. In order to split the cost of the plane I plan on purchasing the engine, radio and servos once I am at that point of the build. This list is probably somewhat of an overkill, but I would rather have what I need than not have it. Here the list of items that I have put together. Thanks in advance.

My wife is starting her LT40 today and its great we will have Ken whispering in our ear at the work bench!!
I need to finish it so I'll be back by wednesday.

RE: Pay It Forward Build Thread!! Sig LT-40 build
About using CA adhesives. I installed a house hold 3 speed fan, frame is about 21" x 21" on the outside of a spare bedroom window and extended the wiring to a work bench where the 3 speed control was mounted. When using CA , I just have to slide open the window and turn on the fan. A small room is best , giving better air flow. This will pull out sanding dust and paint fumes also. I use a lot of CA when building a kit, but just stand upwind of the project and can't detect any fumes. One must allow for intake air, such as an open window or door. For a building surface , I use a well supported piece of melomine surfaced with 1/4" balsa and sanded flat with a long sanding plane.

RE: Pay It Forward Build Thread!! Sig LT-40 build
My apologies to madmoe who asked about my word file 4 weeks ago, and I just sent him a copy. Please send me a email at khghia(at)msn.com with LT-40 in the subject line. I havent kept up with RCU as often as I would like to.
My LT-40 is almost done with ailerons till I lost my workspace in the living room for holiday visits/family.
I was all gun ho on the build till I had to dremel out the trailing wedge for the center ail conrods. LOTS of wood dust from just a lil bit of balsa...I was coughing, wheezing, then on to a full blown chest cold.... It lasted for at least 3-4 weeks. It seemed as though my lung capacity were cut in .5 and I couldnt heal the problem. Weird cause I have never smoked or other resp problems.
I have since read up on fine wood dust and its the absolute worst for your resp system! Im not talking major sanding here folks, just the standard acts of cutting and sawing balsa.
This is my 1st airplane, after many, many helis.
Please use a mask/respirator when working on these wood airplanes! I know for me its a a absolute must!

Was there ever a photo posted of the finished plane? The videos don't come up for me, probably too old. I'd sure like to see what it looked like!!

I'm getting ready to start my LT-40 build. And I can not find a good link to your DGR ( Dihedral Root Gauge) PDF file. Could you please post it again for me and anyone else that might be starting a LT-40 build and following this thread. Thanks
