Dual conversion Vs. single conversion???

What is the difference between dual conversion and single conversion RX.? Will a single conversion XTL work in a dual conversion RX. If this happens will it damage the XTL or RX?
Thank you

In non-technical terms, dual conversion does a better job filtering the signal than single conversion. This means less interferance. For every brand I have looked at, the dual and single conversion crystals are NOT interchangable. You also need to be careful, because some companies have more than one type of dual or single conversion crystal. The safe thing to do is to always use the crystal specified by the rx manufacturer.

correct, most park flrer rx are single conversion as the range they fly is not great due to their size and the cost to male single conversion rx are less.

Its really manufacturers preference. JR has top of the line recievers that are single conversion but use different methods of noise rejection.
You won't hurt anything by using the wrong crystal but it won't work. The crystals are not cut for the freqency in use but for a local oscilator freqency that is manufacturer specific.

Whether on not the receiver is single or dual conversion has nothing to do with the range, either one can have equal range depending on the internal design. You can not use a single conversion crystal in a dual conversion receiver nor visaversa as one uses an IF of about 455 KHZ while the other uses about 11.5MHZ IF. You are best served if you match the crystal manufacturer to the receiver manufacturer as the oscillator design internal to the receiver may differ quite a bit between brands and require different specs for the crystal, even when their fundamental frequency is identical.
