Hello I'm Jordan, C/A1C means Cadet/Airman 1ST Class. It's My AFJROTC name. I have to use it as my name on papers and stuff for all classes. Anyways I Was helping the VVA (Vietnam Veterans Of America) raise money, so my unit of 4 plus our commander Captain Ed Harrison go to Walmart and Get Donations And me and Ed we're talking about milatary and stuff. Then he Asked me Do you want to learn How to fly? I said Yes Sir, and he goes I'll make you a deal I'll teach how to fly, beggining with Ground School and R/C Planes, and then you will Flight Solo in a Real Airplane, He said I'll pay for everything fuel and All, all i have to do is show up on saturday. So I'll be doing ground school, and learning some things with R/C planes before I actually Fly. I'm only 14 Live in TX, And with school (Like his, he's an Authorized Pilot Intsructor) I can get my pilots license. So there for I Just wanted to see what R/C flying is all about so i can go with a little knowledge on saturday. and every saturday after that, until I start piloting a real plane.
Anyways,
Thanks
C/A1C JORDAN H.

Jordan,
Welcome to RC Universe and RC. I'ts a lot of fun. You will find most modelers are a kind sort. We all have our opinions and planes we fly. I fly IMAC (Scale Aerobatics) and also enjoy 3D and some Warbirds. Fly a little combat with friends and with floats off the local pond. Sounds like you are on a good track to get some help learning. Flying RC is not easy so take your time, learn and enjoy.

Careful what you say, Jordan. You can get your teacher in big trouble. I think it's great what he's trying to do, and I do it for kids all the time (not on this scale, but pay for their food and so on when they don't have any money). However, it is against the rules to offer something to one student and not to others in the school. I guess what I'm saying is don't go blabbing to everyone what your instructor is doing for you. It is a great thing he is doing, and you should be very grateful (which it sounds like you are), but it should be between just you, him, and your parents--NO ONE ELSE! Please don't let the man's generosity get him in trouble.
That out of the way, you've come to the right place to find out everything you want to konw about RC. There is a search feature, in which you could search for all kinds of things. Also, ask specific questions and you will get specific answers!
Good luck, and be safe!

Oh thanks man. Sorry. Yeah I your write. I hope to keep flying R/C even after I'm Piloting a Real Plane. Plus I'm going to the Naval Sea Cadets Corps. Hands On Training. Live on ships for 2 weeks. etc. I'm going to Train With the Navy Seals. So I can make my Final Decision about becoming a Pilot for the Marines/Navy or Being a Navy Seal. I'm going to weigh the options out after training. Even the the NSCC is from ages 11-17. It's Like ROTC too, you wear Uniforms and Get rank and Ribbons. So i'll keep going for a few years. So thanks for the Advice no matter what I'll be flying R/C planes though!
Thanks,

I have been working in Victoria the past few weeks and been flying a foamy behind the hotel at lunch.
Decent hobby shop there and 2 fields that I know of.

First thing to do is to stick the vaccuum cleaner to your ear and suck all of your brains out, Then go to the local hobby shop and empty your wallet on the floor (You might as well start getting used to it)
But seriously, You'll find RC to be an excellent introduction to full-scale flying

I'm trying to figure out if I am laughing cuz its really late or this was funny! I guess if you use a "Hepa," you can see your brains flying around in the container.

Hello Jordan:
Congratulations, and welcome to the world of RC. You will find that RC'ers are the best
group of people around. Feel free to ask question, read the threads and you will find a lot of helpful information. I admire your enthusiasm and exuberence.
Jordan, please keep your parents informed about your plans and update them frequently on your progress. I encourage you to follow a career in flying, but be careful, one-step-at-a time.

2slow,
Ah...I believe what the instructor and student do outside of the classroom and off campus is a private matter, and not governed by school authorities. As long as they don't use any school property, they're ok.

All I know is what I've been told by school lawyers--keep everything on the D/L. Kind of stupid, I know, but it's what they suggest. I got into this business to help kids, and then I have to be careful about how I do it--frustrating.
OK, off the soapbox.
Jordan--you're going to love this hobby. Have fun and be safe! Remember, to be a military pilot, you need to be at the top of your class. They don't put underachievers into the cockpit of multi million dollar machines. Do the best you can in all classes--this will all weigh into whether or not you get to achieve your ultimate goal! I have a cousin that is a B1-B pilot in the AF, but he started as a navigator and worked his way up. Pretty cool the things he gets to do. Actually, I think now he is an instructor.
Good luck--what fun lies ahead for you!

So is it you are going to be flying solo in a real aircraft as you stated (full sized one that you sit in) or a R/C plane?

Congratulations and welcome to the addiction of flying RC. Minnflyer is correct when he says you might as well suck your brains out with a vacuum cleaner and empty your wallet at the Local Hobby Store. I was a sea cadet when I lived in england and served with the sea cadets for many years (12 years old - 17 years) As soon as I turned 17 I joined the british royal navy and served with them for 4 years. when I left the navy I joined the army and served another 10 years. You will love the sea cadets apart from it being fun you will learn all sorts of valuble skills that will make your basic military training so much easier.
have fun it is great to see someone so you with a desire to want to serve in the military. good luck

Hi Jordan!
Welcome to the wonderful world of R/C! I was reading your post and see that you're affiliating with the US Naval Sea Cadets. What Unit are you with? I'm the CO of the Trenton Division and this last Spring my Club did a Sea Cadet Flying Day, which we will be doing every year. I did the Ground School with the Cadets for 2 drills (Feb/March 05) and we went to the field in April. If you look in the September issue of Model Aviation, in the District II update, you'll see the write up and pictures from that. My Cadets had the time of their lives, and one even joined my Club with his Dad.
If you like the Military, you'll love the Sea Cadets. And you'll certainly love flying R/C, once you get into it! Like they said before, empty your wallet at the Hobby Shop and have an open mind!
Happy Flying!
Don
PS-For anyone looking to see what the Sea Cadets do and if you want to see if there is a Unit close to you, go to the Unit Locator at www.seacadets.org
