Default Sig Somethin Extra.

Hi,

I am planning to build this kit as my first kit, but as my second plane after having practiced for some time now with a high wing ARF trainer. I will power it with a Magnum 61 4-stroke. But what kind of servos (size and torque) are needed for ailerons, rudder and elevator? I cannot find any info about that on the SIG hp..

Best Regards,
Anders

All standard servos are fine. Someting in the 45 to 60 ounce range.

When I built my two SSE's (SIG Somethin Extra) I used JR537 standard servos all around on both. Power for both was an OS46AX turning a 12.25X3.75 APC prop

AndersDK,
The Something Extra is a great kit to build as a first kit. There's a joke running around that all you do to build this kit is open the box, throw in a bottle of glue, close the box, shake, and remove the finished product. I've built 2 of them now and thinks it's a great kit. The instructions are very complete and has plenty of photos in it. The fit of the parts is outstanding. You'll do well with this kit.

On the other hand, if you're not careful the SE can be handful if it's your second plane. I would recommend that you put the control throws at the low rate that is recommended in the instructions. You might also want to have an experienced pilot do the trim flight and maybe buddy box you for the first couple of flights. The reason I recommend that is because this plane is very maneuverable and can get out of hand for a new pilot. But once you are comfortable turn the rates up to normal and have a blast.

One other problem is that this plane can roll so fast that it literally coats all of the plane with exhaust residue and oil!!!!

Hope this helps.

Ken

I had extra high torque high speed servos I put in mine. I've seen plenty with standard servos in them and they have no problems.
Only thing I would caution about is the stock push rods. They are not the best, they work, but there are much better ways of doing it.
I put my servos for the rudder/elevator in the tail and could use shourt 4-40 rods. Do a search as there are many other ways of doing that, and 100's of other modifications for this plane.
Even if you do no modding at all, it should still be a good plane!!

aint that the truth!!!

I used a TT.46pro 12.25 x 3.75 prop, with standard futaba 3004's all around with no problem.

definitely a good kit to build, it goes together like a dream. One modification i have made, i fly from a (relatively poorly maintained) grass field and as a result grass would catch on the tail wheel and rip it out. I repaired it several times before deciding to put a guard in front of it, all that it requires is a nail with the head taken off set in a pre-drilled hole just in front of the tail wheel. This is of course if you fly from a grass air-field! good luck!

Thank you very much for the fast response. It was exactly the kind of info I needed.
Well, I have heard that it can be quite a handful for the unexperienced pilot - but I want to progress fast into low wing taildraggers with symmetrical airfoils. So I think that I will order the kit now.

I will report my progress in here - and probably also come up with some advice and questions during the build.

Best Regards,
Anders

If you haven't been following it already, there's a lot of good SSE build info in [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3274319]this thread[/link].
