How to i set the trim on the radio so that the servos have an equal amount of rate on both sides. all i know is that theres negative an positive rates. so is zero rate dead center??

Connect you battery to the reciver so it resets the servo in it's neutral position. (Adjust the neutral position either manually with the linkage and/or with the "sub trim" in the radio menu until the control surface is level.
Then go to "End point" in your radio menu. If we take elevator for example:
-Highlight elevator in the radio end point menu
-Hold the elevator stick full down
-Dial the end point setting until you have desired throw on the servo
-Hold the elevator stick full up
--Dial the end point setting until you have desired throw on the servo
Don't only look at the numbers you dial in the menu because the throws can differ because of how the pushrods and linkages are attached.
I use the "End point" setting to do this, but the same thing can be done with the Dual Rates ( "D/R" ).

Off to a good start with this, but let's be clear on where and how to start.
1. with the servo arm removed from the servo, turn everything on.
2. make sure your trims and subtrims are centered at zero.
3. attach the servo arm so it is as close to 90 degrees as possible. If you are using a 6 arm servo arm, you can rotate arms until you have one that matches. I use a protractor to find the closest one, mark it and cut the others off and clean up the arm on a belt sander.
4. If you are off a degree or so, then use subtrim to get the center position dead on 90 degrees.
5. Now that you have the servo arm centered, then adjust the linkage so the control surface is neutral. Make sure you have a good mechanical advantage, the closer in on the servo arm and the further out on the control horn, the better the mechanical advantage. Adjust this so you obtain the recommended high rates as close to 100% ATV or End point as possible. Then use the Dual rate mode to tweak the high and low rates to the inches/millimeters/degrees of travel recommended in the model manual.
6. Then you can adjust the expo to your taste and flying style.
I don't recommend over using the computer radio for centering on sub-trims because you tend to loose throw volume and maybe some resolution around the center, where you want it to be accurate.
If you have any detailed problems with setup, feel free to send me a PM and I will clarify further on the details. Let us know what model you are setting up and maybe we can offer some help on mixes.

Don't only look at the numbers you dial in the menu because the throws can differ because of how the pushrods and linkages are attached.
I use the "End point" setting to do this, but the same thing can be done with the Dual Rates ( "D/R" ).
