Is this plane a rubbishy toy like plane?

Ummm, I haven't seen it in person, but it kind of looks like a toy to me.

I always love reading the marketing hype they put on these things. My favorite for this one was: "What Happens When The Motor Quits? The Cessna 182 motor will shut off allowing several additional minutes of full use on all controls for a safe landing." I wonder how high one would need to have this thing to get "several additional minutes" of flight? Or perhaps the several minutes they were talking about was just wiggling the controls after it was back on the ground.

I would say it's basically a toy. Cessena's very rarely make good trainers but I'm talking 4 channel glow/gas ones. While they fly nice, they have certain things about them. I really do not have much experience with the 3 channel electrics

i dont know the aircraft but i dont think i'd want a student that could only fly 13 minutes every 4 hrs. so you need additional batteries.
i dont like 8 aa batteries in the transmitter. so id say this was basically a toy

For a first plane, dont get it for the following reasons:

1) I too had a cessna electric as a first plane, but i couldnt control it and it was a goner.

2) Its a cessna, meaning hard to fly.

3) THe 8 AA transmitter is probably a 27 mhz. FLy with the big boys on 72 mhz.

4) COming back to point 2, the problem with these types of aircraft is that the prop is in the front, so if it were to crash, the prop is gone. Get one of those pusher planes with the prop in the back. IF you crash, you can just toss it up again.

Those 2 planes look like toys + are 27 mhz.

The plane doesn't "appear" to be a toy, however, Cessna 182, while a full scale trainer, is not suitable as a trainer for RC models (rarely is a scale model suitable as a trainer ).

This is plane will be hard to destroy, actually has adequate power to fly and is a decent trainer. Yeah, it is on 27 mhz (at least in the US ) and uses 8AA batteries, but for the price it is decent. If you decide to go this route (or with any electric ), I suggest getting at least 1 extra battery pack so you will be able to fly while a pack is charging.

It's what most of us that has been into R/C for many years would consider a "Toy airplane and toy radio".

You are that British lad...?!
If you seriously want to get started in this wonderful hobby/sport I do recommend something more like this... An ARF high winged trainer with a span of 150-170cm (built in ply and balsa), a 6,5cc glow engine and a 4-6 channel radio.
This is common way to start ...but there are other ways too...like indoor electrics...sailplanes ...outdoor electrics and so on...
So what is it you want to achieve? What does your dream look like ? Is it to fly outdoors, indoors, glow airplanes, scale, racing, Jets, sport airplanes, starting and landing on a large runway or what??

Wouldn't a 7.5cc engine be more useful in future planes?

I'd agree with Piper Chuck on that. A 7.45cc or so engine would be better for future models than a 6.5cc.

I flew this plane successfully at the time in which was the 2nd time I have flown RC airplanes. I did have plenty of sim training beforehand.

The major problem with the plane for beginners is that the foam is brittle and will break in most crashes. The plane is easy to fly one trimmed correctly and the landing gear is rock solid. I would get the 72mhz version so you can transfer the gear to your next plane.
