Well, I haven't flown since this summer, and i am looking for a new plane right now. In the past, i have flown the following
BUHOR SPAD
Ugly stick
Superstar select
Now, this is where i am clueless. I don't know what way i want to go. I could get a nice electric, but then again, i could also get a glow plane. If i got a glow plane it would need to be a trainer, or something easy to fly, that would fit a 40 LA, or Super Tigre G51.
I am open to any opinions. If i want, have an oppourtunity to buy a LT-25, and i have flown it before, and didn't mind it.
Thanks
Chad

You may want a Avistar [:-] It's a good trainer! with many potentials, I have one and you won't get board for sometime, and it's not expensive, I have a O46AX. Of course there are many other good trainer out there, Have four trainers, all are good some I like better than others.[>:]

The Avistar is one of the best Trainer/sport planes made. You will enjoy it. The LA 40 will fly it fine. If you want to make it a hot dog, put the G51 on it.
I like the Horizon Ultra Stick 40 With mild throws it can be very easy to fly and is forgiving. Yet it can perform pretty well if desired.
Enjoy,
Jim

Sig Kadet EP which is an electric trainer
Any of the Great Planes Flatouts do well in wind
Eflite Mini-Funtana Very nice flying but somewhat twitchy
EFlite Mini Edge 540 Really Nice flying but as with the Funtan a little twitchy
Check out the Horizon Hobby web site under the E-Flite section. There are a nice selection of planes that are pretty much all well behaved

I neverhad an electric RC yet, I was going to get one in the past but wanted a forty size so I could fly it in wind 10mph to 20mph. and by the time I got all the stuff together for a 40 size it would of cost me a lot more than a glow. there may be some others such as a RTF or ARF less expensive??

Chad,
If you are looking for advice on electrics you may want to move over to the Electrics Forum and ask your question again there. You're more than likely to get a better answer there than you will here in the Beginner's Forum.

Bubbagates,
Thanks that was a big help, i am going to that site right now. I was thinking about the mini edge, and also the flatouts as well, but didn't know if my skill level could handle them. But i will check them out and do a litle research. Can i get an electric with flightpak and motor and everything needed for under 230?

I got both of mine and the all the stuff to go with them at cost so I cannot quote a price range
I really would go with the flatouts. The edge and Funtana are somewhat twitchy (I own both, 2 different flatouts, OMP Edge)
BTW Check out Ohio Model Products (OMP). They ahve the buddy series planes and they can be had for around your price range complete BUT they are not foam, they are very light weight balsa and can break easily, but they fly very nice

bubba, i just looked at that and it seems pretty nice. I honestly don't know what i want to do yet. I really would like to stick with glow, but it was just eating up my money last year. I think i will stick with glow, and then after i get a job this summer, get an electric too. I think i will stop by the LHS and try to find a avistar.

There is a link to an RTF Mini Edge 540 that is very close to the $230 you asked bill about. Hope it helps.
I'm not endorsing this plane, I really don't know anything about it other than the price fits close to your stated budget. The Mini Edge 540 I have is by E-flite, but is a good deal further beyond your budget, set up with the right stuff. I find this RTF version very tempting myself. Check it out, ya might like it. You could allways put a little bigger brushless motor than the one it comes with on it later.

I'd do the LT-25 since you are familiar with the plane, but as always it's your choice

elenasgrumpy,
I am not really interested in something speedy yet. I already have a pylon racer that is waiting on me to finish. It reccomends a .25 for sport flying though, so thats my plan.
Thanks though.
I am gonna go call about the LT-25 right now.

I've been flying .15 to .25 size planes for years. Even though I've flow larger stuff, I keep coming back to that size, 2/3 of my engines are .36 or below. Contrary to popular belief, they're not twitchy, and can be a huge amount of fun. More economical on fuel too.

You bring an excellent point Ken. I would love to put a nice 28%er or bigger together, but now that you got me thinking about it, by the time I spent all the $$$ & time required to build it the way I'd want to. I would be scared to death to put it in the air! Probably a good thing I can't afford one right now.[&:]

I can better afford bigger planes now, but that doesn't mean that I want to see them hit the ground. Heck, for the cost of just one of those "Big Boys" I can buy a whole fleet of 40 size planes. I'm not trying to stir up an argument here over "big vs. small planes" (although I'm sure we're gonna hear both sides of the discussion now that the can has been opened), but I'm just saying how I think.
Just my 2ΒΆ worth.

I think that I have more fun because I'm not too worried about them hitting the ground. When I was flying with $2,000 in the air I was a nervous wreck because I didn't like the thought of crashing it, but when you have a plane that's only $300 I don't worry about it. I don't want to hit the ground with it, but it's not gonna put me in the poor house if it does!!!
This plane is at the field anytime I am and is my "warmup" plane or for those days when I just want to bore holes in the sky. I have video of ths plane being flown by someone else (A student of mine) and is testament to how much I love seeing this thing fly, how well it flies and should it get planted it would not really hurt as the plane owes me nothing and has given me and many students/newly soloe'd pilots tons of enjoyment.
BUT, there is nothing like the way a bigger plane flies. I still get nervous flying my bigger ones but this to goes away as I get used to them.
I had the chance to fly a 40% Carden Edge a few weeks ago and it did not make me nervous at all. I flat out denied to fly it (and he kept harrassing me so I did) because there was $6000 dollars hanging up there but I gotta say, boy did it fly nice. The steady 20mph winds did not even phase it one little bit. It takes a bit to get used to flying big planes as they seem like they are not flying fast enough, but it's all perspective.
The first pic is the 4*, the second is me hovering the Edge and the 3rd is my newest 30% Ultimate flown by me on a low flyby
