Somewhat depends on your radio.
Set the top end (full throttle) at full throttle setting with full trim (some radios top end aren't affected by the trim setting).
Next set the low end with trim centered with the throttle barrel open just slightly. Set the closed postion to stop the engine >> low trim setting = engine kill. This will allow a fly mode from center trim to full trim.
Some radios have "sub trim" functions which make this much easier to set up.

I set my throttle this way 1 turn transmitter on turn plane on ,2 losen rod on servo horn , 3 pull throttle stick down, Pull throttle trim tab all the way down, 4 Close throttle on carb to where engine just dies.5 tighten throttle servo clinch. Now start engine see if it dies when you pull trim tab down. If so good if not adjust again. I control my idle with trim tabs only then when get ready to shut er down just pull tab all way down .Hope this helps.
