SIG LT40 tail drager
#1
Got my sig in the air yesterday seem to fly nice and much slower than my pst p51. We only took it up for 1 flight because of the 15 to 20 mph winds. The one thing i dont like about it is the landing gear. Has anyone heard of a way to make it in to a tail drager? By the way i got my first lesson in cross wind landings. Side-slipping is your friend.

I converted mine to a tail dragger. There are several threads here about it, just use that search button and you will find many.
here are some pics of mine...

I've got a few pics of a conversion but it was done as part of my kit build... Wouldn't be too tricky to install in an ARF though I imagine.

My LT40 is the ARF version, and I converted it to a taildragger, no problem. Basically, install a tailwheel, run a pushrod to it off the opposite side of your rudder servo. I used a Great Planes tailwheel with a 1" wheel. Remove your nose and main gear and install new main gear (I used the Dubro nylon gear and 3.5" Sullivan wheels). You will want to install a plywood plate in inside bottom of the fuselage at the point where you are mounting your gear. Install the gear at a point where the wheels are directly under or slightly in front of the leading edge of the wing when the plane is sitting up on the mains with the tail up. There's a bunch of different information on here on how to convert to a tailwheel, and it's really very simple to do.

RichD,
I notice that you also use the Dubro #789 main landing gear http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNM65&P=ML . I do too. Highly recommended. I've converted a few LT-40's to taildraggers myself.
ALso, perhaps it might be a good idea to screw the landing gear (if you use the Dubro) in with nylon bolts. They'll shear off if the landing is too rough, and save the bottom of the fuse.

Rich,
Your LT 40 would look much better to me with "WAR" under one wing and "EAGLE" under the other? Other than that it is perfect.
Enjoy,
Jim
