I have trainer that I am getting ready to fly, (hobbico Superstar 40) Yes I am getting a club trainer to teach me.
My question is this,
I think the foam wheels look "cheesy" and I wanted to replace them with the low bounce rubber ones. Will this be OK, or will it prove to be a problem in my learning curve?
Thanks for the help.

The tiny foam wheels that come with the plane are crap and on the small side if you are going to fly off a grass field. 3" tires for the mains is standard for grass fields. Check your tire sizes and if they are all the same then go with 3" for all 3. If the front tire is 1/4" smaller than the mains then go 3" for the mains and 2 3/4" for the front tire. The low bounce will work fine but I prefer the Lite weight versions over the low bounce, but they are a bit more $$.

For me, personal preference is for foamies when flying off of pavement and rubber wheels if flying off of grass. On pavement, the foamies provide additional friction and make the plane less darty. Since the grass already provides the friction, I switch to the rubber wheels as well as go up in diameter like "Fastsky" recommended.

Trash the Foamies... if you let your plane sit too long they're not round anymore ::bananahea

My right side foam wheel absorbs some oil from the exhaust. I have to "massage" it with some tissue paper wrapped around it to get rid of the oil. Other than that, I like them for their grip and lower weight. If you're running off tarmacs, I think rubber wheels last longer. I can dress foam wheel by turning them with my hand drill and sanding the perimeter
. I hang my planes on a rack, so I don't get "flat" foam wheels but even if you do, they'll recover their shape. Use both of them depending on your airstrip surface...........

rubber. the foams work good but look cheesy and do not hold their shape to well.
another thing is wheels don't really stay on the ground to long as it is. but if you have foams and store it make sure you keep your wheels off the ground. its helps
