....I was wondering whether or not I should wait till i get all the equipment (e.g. servos, etc.). The plane will be a 4* 40 so that i can at least use the engine from my trainer. It wil also be my first kit. I don't want to get 1/4 of the way into the building then have to stop because i won't have enough money to get all the equipment.

Go ahead and build it.......if nothing else.......pull the radio out of the trainer and use it....... By the time you finish the 4* you should be pretty tired of flying the trainer....... 4*'s are nice planes to learn to fly taildraggers......gentle if the throws are not turned WAY up.......but after you get some low wing experience......turn up the ailerons a bit and have fun.......
I have flown mine with anything from an OS LA .40......TT .42 GP......and a Magnum .46 Pro XL.........nice flying planes......
my $.02375 worth........

I just built a 4*40 as my second plane. I didn't get any servos for it until it was completely built and covered and had no real problems. The only thing I would tell you to watch out for is putting your servo tray too high in the fuselage. I did that because I was worried about leaving room for the aileron servo and linkages and ended up not having enough room for the bottoms of the servos- they hit the underside of the cockpit floor. I just added a hardwood rail to get the spacing right and it worked out OK. Also, don't glue the pieces that hold the elevator and rudder control rods to the formers until you've got your servos in. That way you can move them up and down to get them aimed right at the servos. Probably what I should have done is taken one of the servos from my trainer and used it when deciding on the correct position of the servo tray. It's a great kit, enjoy it!

I would start the plane now,Santa might bring you something, also if something should happen to the trainer you'll have a backup plane, also if the trainer just gets super boring then strip the equiment and install it in the 4*. I suggest to always keep one to three planes under construction at all times, hate to see a person go nuts with nothing to do.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll start building it when i order it
. I can't exactly strip the trainer of its components yet....It hasn't even been flown. I will, however, use a servo or two for temporary placement and whatnot. I really can't wait to start....the semester is almost over and i'll have a good amount of down time to relax and build. When it's ready i'll get one of those flight packs and hopefully by then I will have started my third plane
. Maybe i should start saving for a house....oh well...a house can't fly
