Default Is an os .46 fx suitable for a sig LT-40?

Which engine would you put in a sig LT-40? An os surpass .52 or an os .46fx? I already have both engines(picked them up real cheap, brand new) Keep in mind I am just learning to fly. Thanks

The 52 would give you better low rpm performance.

Probably should use your 52 and save the 46FX for your second plane?

Either engine will work fine.

Enjoy,

Jim

I've flown several with the OS 46 fx/ax engines and they are excellent. I have flown one with a MAG 52 four-stroke [close to an OS52] and it was ok but not as good as the OS46. While most OS engines are easy to tune the 2 stroke would be a shorter learning curve.

You can use either of the two engines. Of the two the 46 is going to give you more power than the 52 4-stroke will. IMHO I would put the 46 on it as the 52 may be lower side of power, while the 46 will give you more power. Geez, I sound like Tim Taylor now "More Power!!!!! ugggggg ugggggg!!!!!"

A friend of mine had the .46FX/LT-40 combination. They were a very good match. I used a .52 Surpass on my Avistar and this was a good match also. I think the Avistar is lighter than an LT-40 though.

I'll add my vote for the 46FX/LT40 combination...

I not sure but I beleive the LT-40 & the NexStar are similar in size & weight. I have the stock OS 46FXI engine that came with the NexStar & flies it effortlessy at half throttle. Very easy to tune, extremely reliable & never skips a bit. As a new recently soloed Rc pilot, these things are important to me, never a deadstick yet. And when I am feeling a little bold & cob the throttle, it really gets up & goes.

I have the 46ax in my Lt40 and have found it to be more than adequate. More importantly, it's simple and very reliable-more flying, less fiddeling!

Yes the FX is good & yes the 52 is good. Make your choice on what you want to do with the unused engine.

Here are the specs for the 2 planes

Nexstar:
SPECS: Wingspan: 68.75" (1746mm)
Wing Area: 722 sq in (46sq dm)
Weight: 6.5 lb (2930g) ready to fly
Wing Loading: 21 oz/sq ft (63g/sq dm)
Length: 56" (1420mm)
Sig LT-40
SPECS: Wingspan: 70"
Wing area: 900 sq in.
Weight: 5.5 - 6 lbs.
Wing Loading: 14-15 oz/sq ft
Length: 56"
So yes, they are very similar.

both are a great engine, both will fly your LT-40 very well... you must now ask yourself this question.... which sounds better?

I personally love the sound of a 4stroke, too bad I don't own one. My LT-40 has a TT46pro on it, and it flies great.

it boils down to personal preference with those two engines.

I tried flying the lt with a os 42 la on it but it just barely had enough power to get off the ground and go around in circles. I got a 46 la and It worked good. plenty of powa to learn the touch and go and do other stuff, eventually my luck ran out and the lt went into a dive and would not respond. post crash inspection showed the excess servo wires got wraped around the servo arms. it can happen after a good roll or to and is common to trainer type rc aircraft becuase of how they have the servos installed. look out for that or yours will suffer the same fate.
