Any idea's on this, the wife thinks I'm having an affair. (I am and it's with a P-51 PTS). Went out yesterday with my instructor, He brought his high wing trainer and I brought my P-51. We took the eagle 2 up first. Flew OK but had a ton of wind. Avg, 15 mph gust up to 25. After a couple of flight on this thing w/ the buddy box he said it's just to windy up there for a trainer. So we sat there and watched others fly. Finaly I had had enough " HEY Lee lets put the mustang up, If it crashes I'll just get another one I want to fly" His response" It's your bird" SOOOOooooo I fuel her up hook up the buddy box and off we go. He said he'll take it up trim it out then its all mine. To make a long story short We had a BLAST, the thing handled the wind alot better and ended up almost burning a full Gal. of fuel. Even had a couple of guys come up and want to know which one was flying.. (
ME THE WHOLE TIME) This plane impressed alot of folks.
Now I'm sunburned and cant get this grin off my face.. I LOVE IT.. Thanks Hanger - 9

I gotta ask, WHY in the world would you even want to remove that smile, unless your face is really starting to hurt. Trust me on this one, get used to your face hurting from smiling so much. That's one of the things that makes this hobby so addictive.
The Mustang PTS does do pretty well in wind, as you already know

I have to tell ya. It's been a long time since I've had this feeling. Been flying heli's for 3yrs now.(and I'm a REP.) So this plane was just something to break up the heli scene. I can tell you this I'll be flying planes alot now. Even as a newbie to planes it was just so relaxing to go up cruise the sky without haveing to always be on top of the stick like with helis.
YEAP I"M HOOK. and loving it.

The easiest way to remove the smile is to perform a high speed inverted pass approximately 5 feet AGL on the outer line of the runway, and forget that "down is up and up is expensive". As the toothpicks scatter through the field, the smile will disappear.
(ask me how I know!)
Seriously, welcome to the wonderful world of fixed wing (more than one way to interpret that definition).

I wouldn't try to get rid of it. That would be pointless. It would be right back the next time you go to the field and pull off some manuever that you didn't think you could master or you get a cheer from the motley crew watching when you do something exceedingly stoopid and low, etc... I would just learn to deal with it.... and don't stick your head out the window. Bugs.

There will come a time when you gargle with cheap whiskey, spray your self with perfume, and leave a smuge of bright red lipstick on your collar to make your wife think your having an affair rather then admit you "wasted" another day at the field with the guys.

You will also head to the workshop if it has been raining for a week to start the engine(s) just to get a wiff of the exhaust. You'll soon have to increase your credit limit on your cards because you went from 40 size to 60 size to 120 size to Giant Scale and will never go back.
Once you have moved onto Giant Scale and gas engines you'll have the best tuned leaf blower, weed eater and anything else that is gas powered and 2 stroke in the whole neighborhood. You'll fire up your leaf blower, get a wiff of the exhaust, drop the leaf blower and grab you plane and head to the field.
Last year I had a member tell me that glow engine exhaustr smelled like fun and my gas engines smelled like yardwork. This year I left him fly my gas engined Ultimate and I turned to him and asked him if my gas engines still smelled like yardwork to which he flipped my the middle finger.
He now own 2 50cc gas powered planes

Yaw are funny.. I have to tell ya I like the smile. After flying helis for so long and helping someone out every time you go to the field you kinda lose that smile after a while. This airplane has brought back the smile and I'm loving it. My instructor said if all goes well this Wed. then I will get my wings. YAHOO.. I've gota tell ya though the old timers out at the airfield cant belive how quick I've take to airplanes(Weve not told them I'm the heli instructor at the heli club [>:][>:]Gota love the new P-51 PTS)

You poor critter!!
Life just ain't gonna be the same for ya now
