Huh, Piper and I disagree for once! Who'd a thunk it!

If you use the "Reply" button, great! If you don't then the reply is to the person posting just ahead of you, whether that is to whom you are replying or not. You don't feel this is confusing? Can you explain why you don't?

Nope, I'm not talking to myself (at least not THIS time). If you put the post in context, by quoting, mentioning the person's screen name, or writing what you're commenting on, it doesn't matter that the reply to field is wrong. However, if you actually are replying to the last post, the post reply button field will be correct.

then used the quote button in the top left corner to copy Mark's comments. buIt now says "in reply to elanasgrumpy" and not the last post in the thread t actually who I replied to.

I agree, throw it out. I've seen it cause many an argument. While you may in reality be commenting on something said 3 or 4 post prior, it says in reply to the last person posted. Then that person thinks your comments were directed at him personally & gets offended. .

This has been a test of the RCU emergency broadcast network. This is only a test. Had this been an actual emergency you would have been informed to go to the LHS & purchase 1 gallon of fuel & rush to the nearest flying field!

If you use the reply button, the post will be directed toward the person you are replying to. If you don't, the reply will be to whom ever posts previous to you. On occasions I have been replying to the last person to post, only to have someone place another post, before I can finish mine. My post then automatically gets miss directed to the newest person. Therefore, I think the automatic "Reply To___ " feature is a stupid feature and I think RCU and it's users would be better served, if it was simply removed.
I'm not talking about using the Reply, Quote, Edit or Fwd. buttons here! They are the best way to get your point across and addressed to the proper person. Most all here understand how they work and some even use them; but, I am not talking about them!
So far, in all the responses, nobody has convinced me of the automatic reply process's merit.
Possibly this is a feature which can't be removed, as it is how the forum program functions. As long as the R/CU forum has been in existence and this stupid function along with it, I would think it would have been removed long ago!

I think they should get rid of the "post reply" button and the "fast reply" box. Then you'd have to click on the post you are replying to. No confusion.

I certainly am good at picking topics few actually have an interest in. No reply, explaination or rebuttle from the moderators, either!
Chuck, I thought I'd see if there was interest in this topic. If there was, then I would expect R/CU would take some action. Like I said, I wanted to post the question where there was some traffic and where I visited often. That's why I didn't post this in the RCU Suggestion Forum.
I thought I'd bring this forward for folks to have an opportunity to respond too, again. If it dies this time, she'll just wonder off onto an ice flow and we'll be done with it.
