Default Need Help with Kyosho Stearman 40

Ok, i just got this thing built on Friday. Flew it Saturday morning and i had to put lots of down elevator in it...from neutral point that is. So i talked to a couple of guys at the field. One suggested maybe i needed some down thrust. Again, i had to put lots of down elevator in it to keep it from nosing up the whole time. They also checked the CG for me and it seemed to balance right. S

So, i went back home and put two washers behind the top of the motor mount to give some down thrust. Went today and the same thing. So i need some ideas on what this problem could be. PLEASE HELP!!!! It is a fun little airplane but it is a little on the hairy side on the up/down...it goes one way or the other too easily. And again, i have lots of down trim in it. Would like it to fly level when the elevator is in the level position....not in the way down elevator position.

Thanks many.

It's a common mistake on that plane to install the 'N' struts backwards which gives the upper wings all kinds of positive incidence. Look very closely how you have them installed and compare it to the pictures in the manual. I hope this helps.

Oh...and also put the thrust on the motor back to stock after changing the struts around.

Default THANKS!!!!

By the way, did you reinforce the struts or whatever they are called? Seem really flimsy to me. If so, how or what did you do?

Thanks

No renforcing is required on the struts. But I did change the hardware where they attach to the wings so that I could use the locking nuts with the nylon inserts. The stock screws will keep coming lose due to vibration.

Default THANKS!!!!!

Ok, i have it back together. I was wondering about the struts (or whatever they are called) because i bent them a little on the first landing.....went nose over when i hit a bump on the runway. Anyway, i have changed to the locknuts also already....figured the same thing would happen from the vibration.

By the way, did i say THANKS!!!! I will try and get out as soon as possible to try it again. Weather is a little bad here now so soon as it clears out and i am free from work i will do it.
