Okay, so today was an awesome day at the flying field. I took my Sig Somethin' Extra (read all about it here if you have maybe 8 hours to kill) and my Sky Raider Mach II (which I let a friend fly so he could participate in the April Fool's Fun Fly we had).
I flew my SSE in the Fun Fly, which was my first event ever like that (until today I just flew to be flying, not in any kind of competition). At the end of the April Fool's Fun Fly, I somehow ended up being the overall winner!
My first Fun Fly and I actually won it!!! I was just hoping to be in the top five at best.
The other thing that made today really great was that a club member had a bunch of RC stuff he'd been paying to keep in storage that he was tired of paying for. I bought a Carl Goldberg Electra Deluxe kit (a 2 meter sailplane that cost him $65) for $5. Yes, five bucks for a sailplane kit! He said he cared more about it going to someone who would really enjoy it than about making any money off selling it.
So... that's how my day went. I'm feeling pretty darn good.
I hope it's okay to share it all here in the Beginner's Forum!

Kiswa,
Glad that you had a good day at the field. I always love the spring days when we can finally get out and fly without dealing with marginal weather. These are the days that I usually stay out most of the day (because it doesn't get 100°+ like it does during the summer) and I'll come home sunburned.
Unfortunately I didn't have such a great day. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4113522]Read about it here.[/link]

Wow. I guess my day did go better than yours Ken. I hate to see a good plane go down.
Does anyone know anything about the CG Electra kit? I've only glanced at it, and it may not be the entire kit (I think I'm missing some hardware I should be able to get from CG or my LHS). I'm looking forward to being able to start working on my first sailplane. Maybe I'll make a build thread in the Beginner's Forum for this plane too.
What do you moderators think, would that be cool? Second build, first sailplane build thread?

Kiswa, Congrats on your accomplishments. That's something to be very proud of!! I too had a great day at the field today. While you won by skills, I won by luck.Lol At our monthly meeting Sunday, which was today we allways have a raffle of various $5 to $10 items wich are drawn for first with the grand prize being a gallon of %15 Wildcat fuel & is the last ticket drawn. I never win anything, but today with less than an 1/2 inch of fuel left in my current gallon of cool power which I didn't really care for to begin with. They called my number.
Not only did I finally win something but it was just what I needed a fresh new gallon of some good fuel!! I also got an Ace's RC simple series P-51 kit that came from a little horse trading done awhile back & today he brought me the kit so I got to go home with a new plane to build & a new gallon of fuel after a good successful morning of flying in the wind (again). It's starting to feel like the mid-west out here, if the wind aint blowing , it's raining, usually lately it's been both. Not my intention to high-jack your thread, I just couldn't see starting another one so much like yours. Again I think it's great that you won in your first try at any kind of competition, & I still love the covering job you did on your SSE.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=biggrin.gif]

That sounds like an awesome day! I couldn't make it, but it seems like you had enough fun for the both of us. Watch out for your car windshield when you fly that sailplane.

I inventoried the kit last night and got a bit of a downer. It's missing the fuselage parts, all of them. It's also missing the canopy and cowl, which makes sense since someone obviously built the fuselage and ran. So... basically I paid $5 for a sailplane wing kit. I don't know what I should do now. I'm thinking I may just hang on to it until I get a 2 meter sailplane on my own... then I'll have a backup wing should something happen. Or maybe I'll build it and see if anyone wants to buy a built wing. I don't know. what do you guys think?

Well, you get what you pay for I guess, perhaps you might want to delve into a little scratch building and make your own fuselage for it, it may even prove to make a nice flying wing. It's awsome you not only had a fun day at a fly in, the fact you won makes it that much sweeter, "if that's a word".

] However, I did spend 2 days at the pond, Saturday just for tuning up the boats and Sunday for racing, so it was a good weekend here too!
