Hi all,
I am.....relatively new to this hobby, well I been building those lil' Guillow kits and had good luck with them, but over the winter I built my first true trainer, an Air Scout. My father bought the kit about 3 or 4 years ago and started to build it..... then stopped[sm=tired.gif]. So I thought it was time to finish it. A big problem was the fuselage was warped (sittin in the attic the whole time) , but then I fixed it. No problem. After completion, she was all ready to go, with what I am very sure is a .25 (a little larger than specified, I know), but no problem. So I took it down to the local airfield, since the nearest club is 60 miles off. There, I discovered that she had a tendency to......(long pause
).........VEER to the right. I heard that a little right thrust was OK, but this was ridiculous ( 50 doughnuts in less than 1 minute). Upon closer inspection, I realized the engine was cocked[&:]. Took her home and fixed it, via eye-balling it with a shim.
Between then and now I started it a few times and made some stationary adjustments ( the carb. would'nt open all the way, but I fixed it too). Today, however, I took another trip to the field. This time I took everything but the kitchen sink, just in case
. She still tried to pull right, so I fixed that with a shim, then another shim ( this continues on for about 2 hours). After each shim installment, I tried to fly her, but she only would go outta control and I finally learned exactly how to destroy 2 props in under ten minutes. I did notice that when she reached a good speed ( of course not in a straight line, she curved right all the time [:@]) the wing would come up on the left, drag the right tip, then try to somersault across the ground, busted.....no shattered prop. A few minutes later it happened again ( after the shim installment). No matter how much I tried she didn't want to fly straight. after this last flight the tail wheel got ripped out. went back home and got my three-blade I planned to use on a later plane.
[sm=punching.gif]. So now I removed the other shims and put a piece of pop sickle stick in their place. [sm=lol.gif] . It worked........sort of. It did'nt want to pull as much, if not at all (kinda hard to tell without the tailwheel, but it worked[sm=stupid.gif], absolutely amazing).
Perhaps it was the 3-blade, or the pop sicle stick I happened to be chewing on, but in any case I found a nother problem which I am not too sure I can fix. The wing got warped somehow. I do know for sure that it was'nt like that after construction, she was perfect ( in the most sense). I think it happened while she sat in my garage between the last !QUOT!flight!QUOT! and this one, since it did get a little chilly a few nights, then warm, but I didn't think about it too hard, not I......[:'(] ( should have). So how can I fix that? And what should I look for before the next time around, because she's slowly ripping herself to kindling?

the best way to fix it is with a heat gun. your blow dryer won't get hot enough. you need a heat gun. twist the wing with your hand then apply heat to the covering and remove the wrinkes you formed by twisting it. the wing will have less of a twist. if done right it won't hace a twist.

thanks alot redfox,
I didn't think you could do that. Then again, you can do about any thing (it's wood and plastic, man!!
) My heat gun (hangar 9) stretches monokote pretty darn good. Certainly makes it easier than just using the iron only. Now I see that things work better when I'm angry
[:@]. haha
