I've read some good reviews about the megatech freedom flyer, but i'm not sure how good it is in reality. Has anyone flown one? How good is it? I have no RC planes experience so would the freedom flyer be a good plane for me?

No! They are actually supposed to be pretty fast & not a Trainer type plane regardless of what Megajunk tells you. The guy at the LHS tried to teach himself to fly with one & spent more time driving around thru the asparagus fields trying to find it than actually flying it.
Get a more Traditional type Trainer & a club instructor. You'll fly much sooner & better with the help of a qualified Instructor & a real airplane. JMO.

Last year, when the Great Planes Trainer 40 I was using with students went in (connection failure, my fault) I was looking all over the net to find another to build. The Freedom Flyer looks like a replica or ripoff. I almost ordered one, but didn't for 2 reasons:
1) the price was $100, and the Tower Trainer ARF was $65 (more recently on sale at $60)
2) the Megatech reputation.
If it's actually a copy of the GP Trainer 40, and someone with building skills assembled it and went over the joints & everything, I'd bet it would fly great.
Best wishes,

I think if you take a closer look at the specs of this thing you'll see it is nothing even remotely close To the GP PT40, or the Tower MKII Arf or RTF.
It's 3 ch with a 34" wingspan, this thing is a park flyer size, not a 40-46 Trainer size!
I don't even think that radio has the cabability to buddy box, I could be wrong but you'd think they would mention that feature if it had it.[8D]

Ack! You're right, It was the "Capitol Flyer" I looked at. Senior Moment, I guess.
The resemblance between the Capitol Flyer and the (long discontinued) Great Planes Trainer Forty (I checked the box to make sure I had THAT right) may end with the wing mounting, but you can see it really well in the Capitol Flyer picture.
Good catch, thanks.

my brother bought the MegaTech Freedom Flyer and we were very disappointed with it. megatech's simply don't fly and i would stay away from there products. Flying Megatech's is like throwing rocks, Once it's up, it'll eventually come crashing down.

Flying Megatech's is like throwing rocks,...
This is my favorite quote of the day!!
(A guy came to our field with a megatech ...um..magister?....I think he had over 700$ invested in the cooler-foam plane, electronics and field equipment. He was a student for about a month and disappeared).

The Magister is from Hitec/Multiplex USA, not from Megatech.
As for the Freedom Flyer, I have personally flown it and have had no problem with it. This is a FOUR channel plane that comes RTF with 3 channels (throttle, rudder, elevator) and an open fourth channel that can be used for a main wing aileron upgrade once you get enough hours. I keep a few extra batteries fully charged so I can swap them out after each one depletes.
The Freedom Flyer also holds up pretty well from the average bangs and bumps...is it perfect? no...but then neither are any of us!
I think as a beginner trainer it's a great deal for only around $150.
