Default Sig Senior ARF Suggestions?

Well, I did get my Sig Senior ARF replaced by Sig. No crushed ribs this time. I am far enough along now to install the radio, servos etc. My question is should I install the Y harness for the Ailerons, or, since I now have a JR 662 system for it, would I be better off using flarerons instead? I plan to use this plane as my second plane after I solo on my LT-40. Boy, is it big. Thanks for your suggestions.

Muffinman, the Sig Senior has such light wing loading that flaps will be overkill. Unless you want them just for the novelty, a Y-harness is all you need. Besides, you can always change your mind and go from one to the other with not much effort.

Nope, it's second in line after I get started on my Lt40 first. I have to learn before I get to the Senior. It's too cold and nasty here, so I will have to wait until late March to get up and going. But I have got my radio dialed in for both of the birds. I even learned to us the throttle cutoff switch from Danny at JR.

I have the SIG Kadet ARF also. I actually purchased it a couple of months ago and it has sat on the desk awaiting a radio kit and engine. I am going this weekend to pick them up and begin putting the plane together. I am ready to get it air-born, but until such time I enjoy reading of other's experiences with the same plane. It is my first plane so I am somewhat anxious to find out how well it will do.

I see that you are retired Air Force; ever make it out to the Bone Yard?

I recommend going with two separate channels. This will allow you to explore the capabilities of your radio a little more, including aileron differential and flaperons. The plane really doesn't need flaperons but it is fun to try something new.

the senior ARF is amazing bird. I assembled one last season to train my wiffe. She was solo after 5 flights.
my powerplant and radios are 5 standard servos, y harness for ailerons, and os .70 surpass in the nose.
this plane is easier to fly than a LT 40, it will land at very old woman walk speed.
Just be careful in windy condition, because of his extemely low wing loading.
you may already go to your LHS and buy a 2000 MAh battery pack because either with a os.70 the plane is tail heavy.

enjoy it, it's a great flyer, Experimented pilots loves to fly it because of his incredible low speed performances

Default Sig Kadet Senior

Hi David A. I drove past the boneyard, if you mean the one near Tucson, in the early 80's, never go to stop. But being near Wright-Patterson, I make up for it by going the AF Museum whenever I get the chance. It is an amazing place for modelers to check out, they have just about anything you want to see, Wright flyer, on up to the B-1.

Default Sig Senior ARF Suggestions?

My flying buddies tell me that I am the only person they know who can make a career out of putting an ARF together, but I finally have my Senior ARF done. I chose to make a tail dragger out of it instead of the tryc-gear. Cut approx 2" off the rear fuse, moved the vert. & horiz. stabs so they were even, then made a split elevator and modified the rudder to fit. Added a Sullivan tail wheel, used a 4* 120 for the main gear, put wheel pants on and it looks like something out of the 40's. Too cold to fly right now, looking forward to Spring.

Muffinman, I was at Davis-Monthan between 1980 - 1983. I enjoyed seeing the old birds.

Captjckirk, why did you take 2" off the fuselage?

Partly to get the horiz. and vert. stabs to line-up, plus it just seemed to look better to me. I once did a kit-built and left the fuse it's original length, it looked too long. The push rods for elev. and rudder exit on each side under the horiz. stab. I will post a picture.

Hey Capt,
I am on my second kit built kadet right now and I am right at the point of trying to find a way to do my vert--horiz stab in a tailwheel config. and looking real hard for ideas. I would really appreciate it if you would post yours and let me (borrow) a little from them.
Thanks.
Al

Hi Al, You can leave the horiz. stab where it shows on the plans, and move the vert. stab back so that it is even with the horiz. stab. Then get some 3" wide X 5/8"{ I think thats the thickness} sheet balsa and build a new elevator. Make it split , by that I mean two pieces held together in the center by a dowel. You will also use the same sheet balsa to make a new rudder, it should extend below the the elevator and hinge into the aft part of the fuse. It is easiest to exit the push rods thru the sides of the fuse. I have seen several SENIORS where the tail wheel is connected to a wire up through the fuse. and into the rudder. I didn't like this. Put a piece of 1/8th lite-ply on the bottom of the fuse. and add a Sullivan tail wheel, works great. On the ARF I cut a couple of inches off the rear fuse, moved the horiz. stab forward and aligned the vert. stab. to it. I think it makes the plane look better. Hope this is some help, good luck. Joe
