That is exactly the problem with the AFS, that it's works on the lighting conditions. When I tried to use it that first day, I read the maual numerous times to make sure I had it right. Checked the shadow on the ground turned the plane to check it again. Everything was right per the manual on a day that the maual described as "ideal conditions", but after take off & two left hand turns as soon as I started on the downwind leg of our pattern it went crazy on me!! From then on it was a constant fight & struggle to get the plane first back in visible range & then onto the runway where I immediately turned the thing off & have never tried to use it since.[:'(]

another problem is the hole in the fuse after I disconnected the AFS fuel was still soaking into the wood around the device, after realizing this I removed it and patched the covering, fortunately I noticed this before any major damage from the fuel residue
