Default First Time Building....

So I took the plunge about bought almost everything I need off of Tower Hobbies. I ended up getting a Goldberg Freedom 20 with an OS .25 LA Engine. I liked this plane since it was a trainer, and the wings weren't too long and then I could take the wings off. Has anyone had any experience flying this plane? Just wondering how it handles and such. Well I started building yesterday and I got the Elevators and Rudder done and started on the fuselage. I didn't rush but it feels like I got a lot done. Anyway I have one question regarding my engine. In the manual it mentions that when starting the engine, spin the prop counter clockwise but that is the same way that the nut will lessen. Am I missing something? The way I look at it is if the prop is spinning counter clockwise then the nut will lessen once the engine is running. Also I have a 9x5 prop. Any ideas on this.

And one a funny note, in my rush of ordering off the net I ordered some CA glue from Horizon Hobby and I ordered 2 1oz bottles. What I got today was a 12 pack of 1oz bottles for CA thin and CA+ Med. Now the price for these was about what 1 bottle would cost.

I'll have some pictures up soon.

Tighten that sucker down to where it doesn't come loose! That is the solution to the prop wanting to take the nut off. Check that the nut is tight every time you go flying.

Friction will keep the prop nut on. Tighten it VERY snugly. And I caution you to use a chicken stick or electric starter on your engine. DO NOT stick your fingers into that meat cleaver they call a prop.

As for the glue, sounds like HH's loss to me. [8D]

Congrats on taking the path of the stick build! It's quite rewarding to learn to fly using a plane you built. [8D]

Absolutely!! The feeling of seeing a plane that you built yourself is just about as good as that feeling your got when you soloed. There's nothing like it. That's one of the reasons why I build, the sense of pride of seeing my plane flying.

I'm guessing the person who packed the order made a mistake and grabbed boxes rather than bottles. You'll probably nerver get that lucky again in the RC hobby.

If you don't think you'll use the glue in the next year or so, see if you can give some of it away.

Look at your engine from the other side and imagine what happens when it fires. When you are behind a the prop looking forward, the engine is turning clockwise. When the cylinder fires it forces the threaded portion of the crank that you bolt your prop to in a clockwise direction, in effect threading it into the prop nut. Inertia will make the prop nut want to stay where it is, so actually the opposite of what you think is true, the prop nut tightens itself.

its true that while you are spinning the propeller to start the engine, you are working at loosening the prop nut, but like the others said, if its tight enough it won't be an issue.

The biggest time you will see a problem is if you have a partially flooded engine that wants to run backwards. There the torque is trying to
losen the prop nut.

Cheers,
Graham

Refrigerate the unused bottles of CA until you are ready to use them and they will last forever.

Freebees come every once in awhile. About a month ago I ordered some small stuff from Tower.
I got a tracking number for UPS. UPS? I wondered why ship UPS, the items where small and could easily be sent US postal.
Well the box arrived and instead of what I had ordered they sent a Tower deluxe starter. I called them right away and they said keep the starter with thier compliments and promptly sent what I did order.
I already have a good starter so now I have a backup or may even give it to a newbie at my club.
Hang onto that CA, if you are like me you will be amazed at how fast you go through that stuff
