Well I got into this hobby and thought to myself; "self, wouldn't it be cool to be able to show others how much fun your having?". Thus I proceded to carry myself to Best Buy and spend way to much on a new DVD camcorder. Well I now have a sweet video of me doing a flatspin that ends proving that airplanes bounce if they hit the ground hard enough. Problem is that this 5:30 min video/mpg is about 200 mb and youtube only allows 100 mb uploads. So is there any free (spent enough already) software that I can use to edit this mpg (cut out the boring flying around part and get to what people actually want to see (carnage)). Thanks.

I don't understand all the technical puter stuff but that is Ken's day job, & also Minn is a pretty down with all that secret puter stuff too. I think either one of these guys might be able to help you. Good luck, I want to see the carnage so I hope they see your post soon!!

"Free" is the tricky part. I know there are some out there, but I don't know what they are. I use Adobe Premiere and that's a pretty pricy program.

Yea, it's just my $20 SPAD so it's rated PG since it did not invoke any fowl words from me. Just the a helpless, "It's going in." And best of all, all I have to do is build a new wing to fly it again.

There is a free add-on for windows XP called Windows Movie Maker, you can download it from Microsoft. Once you've edited, make sure you render it as a 320x240 .wmv file. This should take your file size down to managable levels.

The video I posted recently was edited using Sony Vegas 6, which in my opinion is one of the nicest to use, though it's not cheap.

Froobyone, I was just thinking of you as the suggestion of who he might talk to next as your vid came out just fine in here. Maybe that free add on you you just told him about will get'er done. Good job, I can see you're going to be handy to have around.

I have used Windows Movie Maker once or twice, but every time I rendered the video there were some parts that were a little choppy. But the Interface is very easy to use.

window movie maker can do that, it on your system now if you have windows. also nero that comes with 90% of the DVD writers does great video editing, then you can burn it to a dvd

Hopefully I'll be taking the aircraft to the field again shortly and this time my mate will be filming for me. My girlfriend did as best she could, but it's hard for her, with her being blind and having no hands.

(at least that's what the footage look like anyway) (if she reads this, I'm dead)

Going back to topic, the movei maker that is built into XP is a cut down version, the version with all the features is version 2.1

This package will not give you the benefits of a full editing suit, but it's ok for stringing clips together. Apple also make an editing suit, called I-Movie which has a few more features, but I'm not that familiar with it, as MAC's are made with the devils stools and thus, I won't touch them, or even be in the same room as them.

Try VirtualDub as well. It's FREE and has some nice features. Might have to play a little to get the hang of it, but it's not too bad.

I use Windows movie maker all the time. 200 MB can easily be shrunk down to 15 MB or less. All of [link=http://www.designerimages.net/pages/Shannen/shannen_rossmiller_video_archive.htm]these videos[/link] were captured with an ATI all in wonder and compressed with Windows movie maker (that's my wife, by the way). No choppy, no audio gremlins, and they are 1/10th to 1/20th the size of the originals. Remember the video capture rule, 'GIGO' garbage in, garbage out. Start with a high quality original, and the compressed version will be high quality too.

I have been capturing video for the bettter part of 8 years, and can offer more advice if need be.

I should also add this fact about compressed video. The faster the subject (read that as plane) and the more background you have, the more prone it is to visual glitches. The same compressed video of a plane sitting still on the ground can be as clear as the original, but if you tape it racing past a treeline, it will become blurry and 'pixely'. If this happens, try the next higher level of compression. A compressed video to uncompressed video is what a .jpg is to a bitmap.

You should be able to easily make a 3-5 minute video with 25-35MB of memory using windows movie maker. Making a movie is a time consuming but worthwhile endeavour.

Yes, more options. I will check that (putfile) out as an alternative. I still need to reduce the size of the file so it does not take all day to upload. So I think I have to at least update my Windows media player.
