When I learned to fly my instructor bestowed me with a certificate. I framed it!
Using copies of it I have passed it along to students who have learned under my instruction.
I had seen a color copy of this same certificate and would very much like to have one...
Has anyone ever seen this in color??

PS: My flight instructor was Mahlon Hirsch. The name may not mean anything to you but, do you remember Marx Toys??
Mahlon was Marx Toys Master Mold Maker and made all the origional molds for their die cast guns & other things. He gave me a tour through his basement once. It's like a Marx Toys Museum! He has many origionals squirreled away...
Neadless to say, He is a master craftsman and makes outstanding scale airplanes. He instructed me at 75 in 1991 and still builds & fly's today! He began building & flying models as a youth...

Looks like the original was from the 1940's. I like it a lot. I do hope someone is able to find it. Did you try a web search for the publishing company name in the corner?

I've seen some people here that are good with a pc and have the software. Maybe you could have one of them colorise it for you?
I like it!!

Only thing I found out about the publisher is that they are out of business and a record of a bunch of books they published dating waaaaay back. Original was probably in black and white or at least monochromatic. A much cheaper process in the "good ol days".

I did a little research too and came up with the same info as Bruce. I've looked at your original and while it is possible "colorize" it, that would be a pretty labor intensive task. Sorry that I couldn't be the bearer of better news.

Congratulations aerospot I also fly at Gerliens Eagle field. You may be the last to be trained by Mahlon he does not do it much any more. But he is a joy thou. My son is learning to fly his designed club racer but it’s hard for us to get their on Sunday to race his plane. Again GREAT JOB

Interesting to note, if you look at the place where the date is, the blank for the year says 194_ , suggesting that these certificates were in use for the decade of 1940-1949.
And that also confirms Bruce's finds of these being done in the "good 'ol days".
On another note, I have Photoshop and could try to colorize it for you, but I know a fellow graphic artist with better skills than I, so I will ask him to give it a shot too.

I need to reconnect with Mahlon soon. He taught me more than just flying these things. He helped me in the early days with my scratch building endeavors and taught me how to cover with polyester fabric & dope. You've seen his work? He is a master craftsman for sure!!
I always marvel at how he gains his plans. He often purchases a plastic model of what he wants and using calipers, measures & scales a drawing to suit his desire. He never glues the plastic model together instead he tapes parts together that he needs to measure. He states that some kid will enjoy building it someday...
He has a rough exterrior that many took the wrong way but, he is soft as butter underneith. I'm glad to hear he's still fly'in!!
If you ever make it out to Lake City look me up. I'm in the book!
