Hello all, just wanted to share some good fortune.
Word kind of got around at work that I fly RC airplanes and a guy that is retiring and moving contacted me. He asked if I wanted an airplane. He said he didn't have the time or room for it. Why yes I said. Not really expecting much I was pleasantly surprised when he brought it in the next day.
Here is the Haul: (everything was bought brand new an never used or assembled, still in mint condition)
Hobbico Airvista ARF airplane
Futaba Skyport 4 radio w/ flight pack
OS 40 LA engine
Complete field box including:
Stack On box
MPI power panel
Hanger9 gel cell and charger
MarkX electric fuel pump
glow driver
Sullivan 12v starter
plummed 1 gallon fuel can
This setup is so complete that, after inventory, a complete beginner would only need a box of rubber bands, a prop and a gallon of fuel and they would be ready to fly.
Now what to do with all of this?
I already have 3 trainers (2 glow and 1 electric)
I could use the flight pack but maybe I will keep the set together to help someone else get into the hobby.
I could sell what I don't need and buy another airplane but would that make me gready considering it was given to me free?
HMMM, my head is spinning.

"I will keep the set together to help someone else get into the hobby."
There is a boy or girl out there that is in for the surprise of their life, and Missleman is going to get to
experience such a feeling of pure satisfaction that can oly be experienced "by giving." It could
very well be life changing for someone.

It can give you a good idea of the kind of good you can do buy passing on your good fortune if you wish to.

Bruce has already pointed out [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4551240]Pay It Forward thread[/link]. Bubbagates has been really good at finding great homes for materials like this. Check out the thread and see if you want to go that route.

I believe a needy youngster in my area will end up with the lot.
I will talk to my club and see if they would be willing to throw in a complementary club membership along with it.
I think I will chip in the few missing items out of my pocket, fuel, prop ect..
What a grand idea
About the only missing piece will be AMA membership.

Let me know what you're missing. I still have a box of stuff donated to the PIF that I will gladly send your way if I have anything you can use.

Why don't you just donate it to your own club to be used to introduce newbies to flying?
You could give a few few lessons on it also, until they bought their own trainer.

No matter how you decide to donate it or who you donate it to, you will feel very, very good about it. I think your gesture is a fine one no matter which way you go with it. Someone is going to be very pleased and happy, as will you after you donate it. Well done!!!!

Another idea would be to go to an adolescent shelter in your area and talk to whoever is in charge. Ask if there is a youth there who needs a hobby to keep them out of trouble, and if they would make good use of the stuff. If you can find a kid like that and teach them to fly on it, you may be able to really influence someone's life for the better. Sometimes all a troubled person needs is a friend.

I like the idea of doing something PIF-like with it. As Bruce has stated many of us here have participated in the PIF here in RCU & it it is very gratifying to try to help someone less fortunate. I really like your idea of trying to get the club to sponsor someone new to the Hobby with membership to go along with it. Very cool idea!! If you put that together & find the right recipient for the prize, you will make a friend for life & possibly change a life forever. That's all good powerfull stuff. Good for you MissileMan.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif] Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
It would be really cool if you already knew of a good young person, (boy or girl) that you know wants to learn if only they could afford the chance to try right??
You could have a huge impact on their life!
You're good people Missilman!!
I just noticed you listed 40LA, I really don't run any 40s so shoot me your address & I'll send you a few smaller 40 size type props that are new but that I will probably never use.

I have found a recipient. He is a local 13 year old boy who will be 14 next month. He just returned from a missionary trip and given the fact that he doesn't have alot and he still volunteers his time to help others I think he deserves this.
What is still needed?
couple of glow plugs
prop/s
glow plug wrench
rubber bands #64
glow fuel (I will buy a gallon myself)
AMA membership (have to research how much for youth and partial year considering August is upon us)
Optional items:
Better glow driver to replace the chorded one
Maybe an aluminum spinner to replace the plastic one
Can't think of anything else off hand
anything in excess of what we need to get this young man flying I will donate back to the Pay it Forward here at RCU
PS: Great to see you back Grumpy

Missileman I just went to OS's site to check the prop size range for that 40LA engine. It looks 10x5 thru 11X6 should fit the bill nicely so I"ll hobble out to the gagrage here in a bit to see what I can find, then get them boxed up for ya.
I also found an older review from when that plane was new. It sounds like it is going to be quite a good Trainer with room to grow aerobatics wise as well. It really reads like a fine little airplane that will last him a good while & take him into that #2 plane when the time comes well prepared for it.
It sounds like you have found a nice deserving young man to give it to & it will be great fun for you. When his face lights up at the news that it is all his, just for being himself, well that will be your reward. I hope you have a digital cam so that you can share the joy with the rest of us. It will be fun to see the look on his face when he finds out it is all his!
Again I think this is a Super Kewl thing you are doing, what a great guy!!![sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Missileman-
I have some 10x6 props and probably a few glow plugs I could send your way. I found 2 glow plugs still in the package behind the couch yesterday if that tells you how many I have.

I think Grumpy has the props covered but I could really use a couple of glow plugs if it is not too much trouble.
I plan on presenting this young man with the package next Saturday

I'm not having any luck finding the size props I thought I had. If IBrake has some 10X6s let him send them to ya, can't never have too many props anyhow, & I'll keep looking & as soon as I can get a ride to the LHS I'll pick up a few glow plugs for ya. Can't drive myself yet after the surgery. I'll try to get it done as soon as possible though.

Missileman, I decided this would be easier & have a better shot at getting there by Sat. I just had Tower send 3 new glow plugs your way. They are the Tower plugs, not OS but I'm still using the original Tower plug that came in the Tower engine of my Trainer & it still runs like a champ!
Hope this will help your young friend.

Missileman, I was just looking at my order comfirmation email from Tower. It says they should arrive between 8/3/06 & 8/8/06. I hope that will work for you. They are being shipped out of Champagne Il. So maybe it shouldn't take too long to get to Mi. I just used my account info & put your shipping address in. So let me know if you haven't seen anything by the 8th & we will give them a call. I really think they will get there pretty quickly though. I've had fairly good luck with Tower shipping times in the past.
