Default Fuel Tank Seal

Hey,

Just putting together a fuel tank, and the rubber seal is too big. Is there some chemical that can shrink the rubber without destroying the rubber.

Cheers

It should not be too big. Just force it in.
Make sure the brass tubes are installed.

This may sound just a bit gross, but put a little spit around the rubber. This will lubricate the rubber and allow it to slip into the hole in the tank.

Hope this helps

Ken, I'm glad you added "in the tank" to the end of that sentence.

gosk8ing, make sure that the screw is loose enough so that the metal plates on either side of the rubber stopper are not squeezing it. You should be able to see that at least one of the plates is not touching the rubber.

These things are a bugger to get in. Sometimes I'll get them started in the hole with a very small straight-slot screwdriver.

hey again,

The screw is loose and neither the forward of the aft plates are touching the rubber plug. I have assembled about 3 other tanks, but they have never been this tight.

gosk8ing,
If the screw is loose and you still can't get it to go in any other way you can shave down the size of the hole with a hobby knife. Just be very VERY careful you don't carve away too much material, because if you get the opening too big it will never seal tightly. You need to shave away JUST ENOUGH of the tank so you can get the stopper into the hole.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help

What i am doing at the moment, is getting a roll of sandpaper and opening up the hole in the tank slowly until the plug fits. I find this will work better than cutting down the plup.

Cheers
