WooooHoooo!!
I finally got a chance to fly my first gasser. I AM HOOKED!! I bought it used a few weeks ago and finally got to fly it today for the first time. I had the help of some friends who fly Giant Scale aerobatics/IMAC.
I had an experienced IMAC pilot help me with setup and he took it up, trimmed it and flew it for a while and then asked if I was ready....I lied and said yes; so he handed me the transmitter. (Thing flies like a dream). I flew through a tank and landed. Later, I did it again, takeoff through landing, and I now know why they say that bigger planes fly better. They do, they just fly better.
I have had this silly grin on my face for hours and I can't wait till next time.
What a great hobby!!

I love flying gassers, but they have a world of problems of their own. The two that bug me are
1, Size. Sure they look and fly great, but hauling those things around can give you a hernia!
2, Smell. Every time you take one somewhere (Unless you have a trailer) your car smells like gasoline for a week.

You sound like another happy gasser.
While gas planes are bigger and the smell of gas is annoying, the joy in my opinion makes up for it.
You can purchase and additive to change the smell of the gas. I have use it.
It can be ordered from Jeggs in Columbus Ohio.
As far as the size, you will need to purchase something large enough to haul it in if you don't possess this already.
Happy Flying.

My son says I drive a adult daycare bus. I agree that the storage and transport is a real issue, but I deal with it as it is worth it.2. Use AVGAS. I get mine at the local airport. Sure it is more expensive than the regular, but at least your gasser does not smell like yardwork.

Safe Flying!

I have this grin still, so the issues of size and gas odor are small for me. I travel in a mini truck in a 7-9 county area in Southern CA and I can easily bring a my 31%, a .40 size stick and a foamie around with me. I have a 33% with a DA 100 that I just bought and it's a bit harder to move around, but I'll prolly end-up with a trailer before too long.
Another thing about Gas is the sound!! I LOVE the sound of a DA 50, 100 or 150...or almost any gas airplane engine for that matter.

I love the sound of a good running gasser too. My friends 33% WM Ultimate is just awesome!! It sounds so good in the air. It takes him a while to get it all set up with the flying wires & all, but it's well worth it. It's a fun plane to watch & I can just imagine how much fun it is to fly!

I started flying February of last year, flew my first 50cc gasser in March of this year (first anniversary of my solo flight). A 85" QQ Yak with DA-50. Hooked from the first flight!! Maidened my second gasser last weekend, a QQ 102" DA-100 on canisters. WOOOOO! I look at my glow planes and don't even want to bother taking them to the field.

The people here at RCU have helped me tons since my first post here and I was as thrilled last weekend at the end of my maiden as I was about my first solo flight

Just make sure you become anal about maintenance. Vibration is a lot worse on these birds so every couple of flights check EVERYTHING. Also, make sure you do engine on and off range checks!!

OH I am SOOO HOOOKED!
I just need a few more flights with some moral support and I will be able to fly the 50 reliably on my own. I already bought a 100 size and it's waiting for my skills and confidence to reach the next level. Both of my gassers have Desert Aircraft engines in them. I really love that sound!
It's also great to be able to afford fuel without consulting my accountant. What have I DONE?! Now I need a trailer and a second job. Could a 40%'er be far behind?
Oh Nooooooo!

Seriously though, congrats on your accomplishment! The 100cc is going to fly even better than the 50cc and be that much smoother. The twin cylinder engine has so much less vibration too.
