hello

i m new to rc planes. can someone recommend a good plane setup for me to buy. i m also on a budjet for this. thanks for your help

also, i never had any experince with planes

There are DOZENS of threads on this subject. Try doing a search, you may get the info you need quicker!

(on a budget, try used equipment and/or ask around your local fields/clubs for help. An earnest interest in the hobby we love tends to make us very generous)

theres a ton of ready to fly electric planes out there that are the best for learning without having to go the buddy box or AMA field, most the ones I saw in this thread are gonna run you 250$-500$ an with a small $$$ youshould go electric RTF, then maybe a almost ready to fly, and then hopefully build your own kit .YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO AMA TO FLY OR LEARN, But I would read their rules to help you fly safe, best of luck!!! your bub, scoooper

The best prices in Canada to buy RC planes, radios, ect. is from the link below. If you serious about learning to fly glow planes, RC clubs will save you money by offering training for free when you join by reducing crashes while you learn. Also there are very good deals to be had within RC clubs when flyers advance to higher performance planes and will sell their trainers for far less $$ than you would expect. You will also need to get RC flight insurance from MAAC. Check out the MAAC web site to see where the nearest RC clubs are and for contact phone numbers. Other alternative is to phone local hobby shops that sell RC airplanes. They will also know where the RC clubs are. [8D]

fastsky: I didn't know one needed to get RC flight insurance from MAAC. is that the law in Canada?( I didn't notice that reg on thier web site), did I miss something? Lots of not too well to do folks just get left out? sad!!! If so, Lets hope your MAAM is nicer to those who just want to fly a little plane and not make a lifestyle change to do it like our AMA, theres little toys an big toys, thier toys, I didn't notice qaz393 say anything about learning to fly glow planes, $$$$$ he just wants to fly!! your bub, scoooper

If your budget is constrained, and your experience is low, the best suggestion I can make is to get an RC flight simulator for your computer. No danger of breaking it, no risk to your pocketbook when you're practicing, and you can learn a lot with one. Then when you buy a powered plane, your risk will be lower because you have a lot of those learning-curve things out of the way.

RE: "Lots of not too well to do folks just get left out?": To be allowed to fly at an RC club requires MAAC insurance but its not expensive, its $75.00 a year for over 18 and $10.00 yr. for under 18. Club membership prices vary but most seem to be either $50.00 or $75.00 yr which is about the price of a round of golf! [8D]

No one said you have to join anything but the best approach and YES cheapest can be joining a club.
1. you are almost guaranteed not to crash your airplane while training with a qualified instructor (which is free at most clubs)
2. If you ever do crash and injure someone or cause property damage your liability insurance will take care of it and you wont be in debt the rest of your life.
3. club members often sell their airplanes, especially trainers, very cheap or even give them away. (I gave a brand new trainer to a kid down the road recently, another guy I fly with gave a ready to fly trainer away last week and my club sold 2 used RTF trainers for $50 each)
You can go your own route but you will be missing some great training and the chance to meet a bunch of great new friends.

qaz, Perhaps if you give us a little more info it might be easier to stear you in the right direction. Do you know if you want to learn to fly glow, electric, or both? If you tell us where you would like to get to in the hobby, maybe then we can give you better advice on where to start.

glow is what i want

If you want to fly glow, & you have a limitied budget to start with, then I wouldn,t waste any of it on some little electric park-flyer. If I were you I would go back to the list of Trainers Ken put up for you. Then find an Instructor. He will get you soloed on a glow plane & will help you keep it in one piece. The Tower Trainer RTF is a great flying Trainer for the money. It is not very expensive & Tower allmost allways has some type of discounts going on to save you even more money. I still fly my Tower all the time just because it is such a good flying airplane, even though I have moved on to more advanced planes. Here is a link to it. Again this is just one of many choices available, but it is the most affordable that I know of. Good luck.

In Canada I believe that Greathobbies link that Fastsky put up for you is Tower's sister company. Shipping may be less that way for you. I'm not really sure.

Great Hobbies started out as a small RC Hobby store and internet online sales from Eastern Canada called East Coast Hobbies. When some owners of a few hobby stores in Western Canada were going to retire they offered their stores to be bought by ECH. They accepted and built a large store/warehouse in Western Canada and changed the name to Great Hobbies. Now when someone orders something say an engine, it will be shipped from which ever store is the closest to get the item to you sooner. They are a great outfit to deal with and their prices are extremly competitive. The only bad thing is I can't buy Tower Hobbies engines from them. I love the TH75 size. [8D]
