Default Wood for spares

Hi,

I want to make a trip to the hobby store

I would like to get some wood to keep on hand. I am building a couple of arfs and I see people use triangle stock.

Could you tell me what I should keep on hand....I also want to get some ply so I can make a tray, again don't know what thickness I should keep on hand. If you can think of some other things that are handy to keep around let me know.

Thanks

A piece of 1/4" and 3/8" triangle stock will cover most of your triangle stock needs.

Tray? What kind of tray?

Sheet balsa is always handy.
The 2 most common sizes I have seen used are 1/16" and 3/32", 1/8" is also good for fabricating different things. 3" wide sheets are good.
1/4" and 3/8" square sticks come in handy too.

Ply 1/4", 1/8", and 3/32" will cover most everything you'll need for repairs.

I was looking to make a RX or battery tray. When I had someone build my Venus for me they made a tray for the RX.

1/8" ply should be fine for that or making servo trays too. Depending upon conditions, you could get by with the 3/32 for the RX and Battery.

I use velcro on all my RX and batteries.
If the fuselage is sheeted I put in adhesive backed velcro hooks in the bottom or top depending on if it is high or low wing and install the hooks on the RX or battery over a layer of foam padding,
The velcro can be bought at any sewing supply store.
If the Fuselage is not sheeted you can put in a piece of ply across the ribs and put the velcro on that.
What I like about this method:
It is simple and clean.
RX and Battery can be easily moved around to balance the model.
RX and battery can be easily moved from plane to plane if you want.
