In the past I have ditched into the weeds a few times and flipped over on the runway but this is my first actual crash.
It was on my H9 P-51,
The crosswind was a bit strong and gusty,
I came in and the wings were dipping back and forth quite a bit, a sharp right wing dip came up about 5 feet up, Dummy me, I gave it more right aileron sending it into a steeper wing down attitued, I corrected but by then I lost airspeed and stalled nose down.
Broke the gear block I haven't fixed yet (I reapaired the other block when it popped loose last week)
Broke the Prop, broke the fuselage side loose from 2 of the formers, accordianed the scoop/wing mount.
Repairs don't look like too much and with rain predicted for the next couple of days I should be able to get her back up soon.

I recommend that you not use ailerons for steerage on your approach in windy conditions. Use the rudder to compensate for the wind and use the ailerons to keep the wings level. I am sure you already heard that, though.
Sorry to hear about the crash, but welcome to the club!!!!!
Fix the plane! Put it back up and get comfy with the windy approaches.
Cheers!

ouch! Sorry to hear that MM. I know from your previous posts that the P-51 is one of your favorites.
I experienced my first "repair initiating event" last week. While working on landings with my instructor - I came in a bit too close to the fence and dinged my wing (luckily we were the only ones at the field). A trip to the LSH and $30.00 later - I'll be starting my repairs over the next several days. Looks like I'll get a "crash course"
in repairing the leading edge of my wing.
Knock 'em dead with your repairs!
