I have a Hot Shot 2 that I have had for about 3-4 years, and recently it hasn't been able to hold a charge. Is there something I can do to make it last a bit longer? I also was wondering if I could cycle it. If so, how? I may just end up buying a new one, excepte this time I would like to buy one that just requires a AA so that I don't have to worry about charging.

Sounds like your ready for a new glow driver, try this one but get some rechargables as they eat batteries,

As a backup, I solder together 4 D cell alkaline batteries to give 1.5v with longer duration. Electrical tape together and with an 18" cord to a press-on plug adapter.

Thanks guys. The link to the glow driver that was suggested is the one I am considering. But the only problem is the part about you saying "they eat batteries" So how long can I expect a AA to last? Maybe I should just get another recargeable one. The reason why I wanted the AA style was so that I wouldn't have to buy a whole new driver next time. I may also try what HuskerBoy said because that sounds like the batteries would last longer.

I also have the HotShot 2 which has lasted almost 5 years now. You must have gotten a poor cell. I have the D cell pack just in case mine goes south while at the field.

I don't even use a glow driver anymore. Four D cells soldered together like Huskerboy said lights off everything I fly for an entire summer. Glue them together with silicone before you solder, they are much easier to handle that way.

I would try cycling it. We have a habit of charging them frequently and never letting them get low.
To cycle I got a plug just like the one on the charger and hooked it to my cycler/charger.
