basically it is anything in a stalled condition...
where the airplane is no longer flying by the lift of the wing, but by the pull of the prop.....

harriers, torque rolls, hovering, et. al.

3D is the fancy (gen X or Next or whatever generation we're on now) is a way of flying in such a manner that would turn inside out the innards of the poor living creature that happens to be strapped on to it..........
basically is forcing the airplane to perform aerobatic movements that would not be posible without lots of power and BIG surfaces, the airplane is not "flying on the wing" or as you can say it's not flying using airlift on the wings but rather is being pulled by the propeller and the prop flow modified by the surfaces. It's posible because of excess power to weight ratio on modern designs and engines. Some of these maneouvers are starting to be done in real life aerobats, but I doubt all of them will be done in full scale and never at the speed (or lack thereof).

Also now they coined the term 4D .... which is a funny way of saying that the prop's thrust is reversed so you can fly backwards .. not that the plane is sailing through the space/time continuum

Go to the "Members Videos" on the home page and watch some videos with 3D flying.

Hey Swamp,
Dude you need to check out the full scale threads and get back to us... Too late buddy, 3-D and full scale is here already. Two weeks ago I saw a Pitts with a 400 horse hang on the prop for about 15 or so seconds. Also if the plane is in a stalled attitude there is no serious G loading.

Hey arrow. I said that SOME of the maneuvers won't (or cant) be done in full scale, I did mention that some are alreadymaking inroads such as prop hanging.... now your 15 seconds compared to 4 minutes fishing on a pond by J. Shulman y think are two different issues .... Also if anything flatspins or rolls at the rate my twister does.... I seriously doubt the pilot will not fade into high g oblivion

Swamp,
15 seconds or 4 mins is irrelevant, the point is that full scale is capable of that manuver. Besides who wants to stand there for 4 mins watching the same thing. (keep in mind RC and full scale displays are 2 totally different things). In a high rate of roll the center of the fuse is not experiencing the same force as the wing tips, and spins... I know a guy who flys a FULL SCALE Extra and he spins the crap out of it... and by the way he's 82. So tell me again how we feable humans can't hold up in STALLED manuvers, so the next time I talk to Patty I can let her know...

This will show some good examples:

Alright, I think that we need to calm down a bit here. If everybody wants to let tempers get involved then I'll lock this thread up.

3D is an airplane flying like a helicopter, but not looking as ulgy as one!
