Hey Rob! Hows the flying and building going for you since Saturday? I'll give you a call and let ya know when i decide to bring it to the field. I'm guessing it will be a few more weeks, just depends on working more of the bugs out, making sure i feel its ready to go, and final exams/papers all due by may 14. [X(]

Looks like there are some alternative spellings for Griffin: Gryphon, Gryffin... If it were me I'd think hard about changing it to the much sexier "Gryphon."
LOL just my worthless opinion.

E-Flight: So that we know what it would cost us to do the same...how much did they charge you to cut the wood for the plane?

Nope not at all ro347 no such thing as a dumb question
The wood i bought seperate and i actually bought more wood than i needed, like alot more, almost enough to make 1.5 planes. So im not to sure what the wood cost would be as of yet, in the next few weeks i'll be going thru the extra wood i have leftover and find out how much i actually did use and what i didnt use. Just a rough guess here from what i see in the workshop and id guess the wood total for this kit is roughly between $40.00 - $50.00. Might be a bit off, just depends on how tight of a space i can fit the pieces when i lay them out on the computer to be laser cut.

hey everyone,
hope your all doing well and enjoying the flying and building.
I got some work done tonite on the plane, but didnt take any pictures of it. I marked the trailing edge of the elevator where the control hinges are going to go and did the same for the trailing edge of the rudder.
Once i completed that i removed all the electrical components and have started the sanding process preparing the plane for covering. I then sanded the elevator (top and bottom), both sides of the rudder, and am about 3/4ths of the way done sanding the fuselage sides. Once i complete this i'll be able to start the covering process in the next few days, working my way from the elevator and rudder covering, to the fuselage sides. then onto the wing.
I've decided on the colors "i think", would everyone like to know ?
or should i leave them a surprise till i get some photos up?
What would ya like rcgroup members?
Also, if anyone has any suggestions for color schemes/colors theyd like to see on this plane or ideas regarding that, please def. let me know, input would be great guys!

Well i spent a few hours yesterday completing the sanding process of the fuselage, and getting it ready for covering. Then started on the covering process with the elevator. Hope the pictures turned out good, i can never tell if they are worth posting sometimes. Enjoy!

well more coverings underway! have most of the tail surfaces done, except for the actual control surfaces, and the white stripe on the front of the rudder. also started the covering process for the fuselage by putting the strips on the edges/corners. planning on using transparent blue, white, and transparent red. Let me know what you guys/gals think.

Specs of Griffin:
wingspan: 60"
fuselage length: will have to check
wing loading: have to work out still, need to find that equation thing to find it
weight: its sitting at roughly 4.00lbs without covering, nose cone, and prop. so i think when all done it should be roughly 4.50lbs
power setup: Astro 05 brushless geared motor, 60 amp speed control (went overboard here, it was an extra one i had )
battery: 3s1p 5000mah li-poly pack
radio gear: electron 6 reciever, and 4 hitec HS-85BB servos. two for the wing and one for rudder and elevator.
Props: thinking a 12x6 or something around there, the 05 has a max amps of 40-45, so im planning on propin it so it pulls less than 40amps. will have to do some testing to find out the best setup.

Well the weather was great yesterday, but i had to work from noon to 6pm so no flying for me
but i was able to get some covering on the Griffin done last nite.
The fuselage is pretty much covered and rdy to go. cant decide if i want to add a red accent mark down the side of the fuselage or something similar, what does everyone here think??
I Should start covering the wing today or tomorrow, have to balance the wing first then can get started.
So whats everyone think so far?

Attached are some pictures of the work i've been able to accomplish on the plane recently. Its taken a bit longer than expected because when the weathers nice, i'll end up going to the flying field instead of building, haha
im sure everyone has that happen to them to
Hope everyones enjoying the build log and all of the pictures. I'm always open to hear what others think of this project, so please feel free to share. thanks

Well i attended Marcee 2007 and was able to get one flight in with the completed plane. the flight didnt last to long tho, the speed control overheated and i had to land it. i will have to create an airway exit hole for the air to pass thru the fuselage, but otherwise it flys
here are a few pictures of the completed plane. let me know what you all think
