RTF Nexstar
OS .46 AXi
Futaba 4YF

Taught myself how to fly, now I'm teaching my son on the same set-up. Does that count for two?

Hobby Lobby Junior Telemaster kit (4-ch)
K&B Veco .19
Futaba 4ch

Transitioned from CL to RC in 1979. You can learn on a plane that small but I also had the full size Telemaster a few years later with a Fox Eagle 60 and loved it.[8D]

Futaba 6EX

Still using 46AX
I'm apparently the one percentile that outgrows a 6ch radio in a season [:@]
The Nexstar didn't like my high speed, low altitude barrel rolls[&:]

Hanger9 Alpha 60, Evolution 61, Futaba 7C 2.4GHz.

Got the ARF rather than the RTF so I could upgrade the radio. Good flying plane, solo'd quickly. Liked the larger size of the 60 over the 40 for better visibility.

I learned on a alpha 40, very great plane, I have flown a few trainers including Tiger Trainer and the HObbico and the alpha has them beat hands down IMO. And for a trainer it can do some decent acrobatics too, nothing fancy but more than I thought when I got more hours on her and tried what it can handle. And IMO the alpha looks the nicest too, no that should not make your decision but with it being good looking and a great GENTLE flying airplane you cant go wrong, and it comes with everything you need, 20 minutes or so and your flying. And the engine is practically fool proof, never once have I EVER had problems getting it to fire up RIGHT AWAY. IMO go with the alpha 40 and H9's rep for quality is top notch.

My first flights and solo were with an Alpha 40, however my vote goes to the NexStar ARF. The NexStar absorbs much more punishment than any Alpha and flies at least as well.

Happy Landings!

Jensen Ugly Stick
OS .40 H and .40FSR
Futaba 4ch
1978-79. With the engines under the recommended size it was no barn burner but it would loop from level, and with the wing, it would not ballon as much in the wind and had a steady sink rate when the power was dropped. Not hard to fly but not a plane you could learn by your self.

My 12y son
Kadet MK11 with 3 channel
OS.40FP
Quatro (received in a trade with the engine)
If you can build, it is a strong plane for a beginner.

Hobbico Avistar 40 II ARF
OS 50 SX
Futaba 9CHP Radio

I started with nitro helis, so I already had the 9CHP radio. l had experience with the heli version of the OS 50 SX engine, so I got the plane version for my trainer. This combo flew nicely, and the OS 50 SX packed plenty of punch for aerobatics, and to pull out of bad situations. This was a nice aerobatic trainer, I wish I still had it!
