Mike,
I understand that they're not called emulators. I was in a hurry trying to get out the door as I typed that post and my fingers did the thinking!!

sure they are Ken, they emulate how we all wish we could fly if we had a reset button, instead of a glue collection and the occasional box of sticks that the eventual crash results in

I vote FOR sims. Sure, they can lead to bad habits but so can learning to fly without an experienced instructor. I started out with FMS then got the G2 sim as my son and I were building our LT-40 trainer.

We're not new to model aviation (both fly control line) but it does take a bit of time to get used to the orientation flying away and flying toward yourself. Taxiing and steering with the nosewheel also took a bit of practice.

Once we got out to the field and hooked up with a buddy box, we both soloed after about 6 buddy flights each.

The sim saved us a lot of time, balsawood and frustration on our instructor's part.

Whoa! Another ASCII nut! Remember when manual typewriters had a ΒΆ character?

ASCII a dumb question...

Dude... lol. Funny stuff.

Don't often see many other folks using the alt+numberpad digits characters. I hate when I go to enter a ΒΊ and the numlock is not set and I end up going back a page and then my message is gone from the Reply box when I click forward a page. If I'm drafting a lengthy reply or end up getting long winded I'll move it into notepad and then copy and paste from there.

Also gotten in the habit of hitting ctrl-a, ctrl-c before hitting Ok to submit my reply. Had RCU puke on me a few time with an error page. When I click back, my entered text is gone.

Oh, you're bringing back nightmares of when I used to do support/training for TV meteorologists. There's nothing like a 4am call from some guy who can't remember how to make the ΒΊ on a Unix machine that he's used every day for the last five years of his life--especially when he's got to be on the air in 15 minutes and you know the rendering is going to take at least that much time. Fun stuff!
