Hi , I am wanting to make a rack of some sort so that I can transport my planes safely to the airfield.
It was pretty easy when I only had my Alpha to carry , but now I have one more and the tiny bed of my little ranger truck wont carry both of my planes and my flight box without something possibly getting broken.
I was thinking of making a rack out of PVC,but cant come up with any good ideas for a 2-3 plane rack.
Has anyone here made something like this?? If so, what ideas did you come up with to carry your planes?
Thank you

there is several threads on just this subject here at RCU.
there are numerous creative ways for a plane rack I am sure there will be a bunch of good ideas coming soon.
I also have a short bed in my Toyota Tacoma I use a folded tarp in the bed,to set my fuselage's on, and a old heavy blanket for padding for the wing's to lay on over the top.
a rack won't work for my planes most of my wings are too long for my bed,and have to be at a angle to fit so the blanket works well and holds the wings in place so there not swinging around getting a rash.

For the wings, look at how auto windshields are transported by the installers. Simple to copy (and make adjustments) using PVC.
For fuselages, think along the lines of lumberyard racks for wood. Though if you don't have a topper you will be limited on how high you can safely stack them before you encounter wind blast.
With both you can use some soft nylon cord/rope to hold in place.
Just some food-4-thought.

I have been using this rack since my first year. It has held up for the better part of 5 years, and hundreds of trips to the field. One tip, when attaching PVC fittings, don't glue them, screw them with slef tapping screws, that way, as your fleet changes, you can change the rack. PVC pipe is cheap, but the fittings will break the bank. This rack has hauled 15 to 20 planes, ranging in size from .40, clear up to my 25 pound behemoth coroplast gasser. Sits in the back of my short box, and secures with bungee.

Deadeye: Got any pics of the other side. Can't see the fittings and how you tied into the other side.
Gonna copy, copy, lol.

Tony, here's mine. Don't have any planes installed, but I'm sure you can tell how it all works. The slots in the sides are for the wings. Easy to build and very inexpensive.
