Hi,
I need to re-cover my airplane, but first, I need to remove the current covering. I have just tried heating it and trying to strip it off, but I have not had much luck. This will be the first airplane that I have ever covered, so I will need all of the help I can get. So does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the covering? Just FYI, this is a 1/2A pylon racer, so it is small and shouldn't be too difficult to cover, but if anyone has any covering tips, then they would be appreciated also.
I apoligize, becuase this must have been posted a million times.
Thanks,
LT-40

Hi LT-40,
How are you tring to remove the covering at present?
Is it a open structure airframe or solid, ie. sheeted in balsa.
Is the covering one of the heat shrink plastic coverings, or something else.
If you could post a bit more info it will be easier for people to advise you.
Cheers,

Oh sorry, It is sheeted so there is nothing but balsa under the covering. I believe that it is monocote, but if not, it is something very similar. Currently I am just trying to heat the seams trying to get the adhesive to release and then pulling/heating to get it off.
Thanks again,

I stripped my NEXTAR a couple of weeks ago what a pain, the heating method sort of worked it's more like the slow pick and peel method and alot of the plastic color junk from the main plastic film just wont let go. I have sanded a bit of it off and have given up in others as long as it's tight I will just cover over it.

Some coverings come off easily with heat - MonoKote is not one of those.
It will be a slow process, but just keep at it.
As for recovering, here is an article I wrote a while back:

And here are some videos that I did later:

But read the article first. It gives a lot of basics that are not mentioned in the videos

These videos are a must watch I covered my first plane after watching these videos and people tell me I made a good job of it. The tips I picked up from these videos where invaluable.
