Just thought I'd let you all know I got my wings this evening. Had a beautiful evening for flying though the mosquitos were ravenously hungry. Showed two of our instructors my ability to tune and operate my plane safely. Then took off, flew a few circuits and did some touch and go's and some landings. Shiny new wings up on the dresser....until I find a flying jacket suitable for them. Thanks for all the help and support. This forum can be a godsend some days.

Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!![sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif]. IMHO soloing is one of the best feelings in the world so enjoy it, you definitely earned it!!!!!
A solo flight is a great accomplishment and that wins you one genuine RCU ATTABOY (Suitable for framing, wrapping fish, or lining trashcans).

Congrats! I can't wait till my first solo. This being Father's Day weekend, I've had kind of a mixed bag of emotions. Bought my first glow plane (Sig Kadet LT-40). Drove up to my daughter and son-in-law's place to assemble. We got it finished late Saturday...then the rain started! It's now Sunday morning and pouring down rain!
On the positive side, I had a blast spending the weekend with my son-in-law learning how to assemble an ARF. On the bad side, I REALLY hoped to put this bad boy in the air this weekend! Oh well, I've learned a lot this weekend and hopefully I can get with my instructor next weekend (he seems to be working a lot on the weekends lately [:@])

I just got a new engine from the LHS for my F-22 and put it in Saturday night, just to wake up to a rainy day on Sunday.
I was lucky though, i was able to sneak in one flight on my LT-40 and my maiden flight on my F-22 before the rains started up again.
You will enjoy the LT-40, it is really sturdy, as I have had more than one "not so nice" landings and all I have had to do it batch a couple tears in the covering.

I am 16 and just got my first glow plane this weekend. I am waiting for my AMA card to come and to finish collecting the glow necessities and I will fly by this weekend. but anyway, I was told a 17 year old from my field who started on a few years back started after just 6 months of G2 (or weeks I don't remember exactly) and the trainer cord for him was so unnecissary that it was funny and the trainer switch was never flipped. Back to my point, I have been using G2 for about 3 years now, do you think things will be the same for me? I will find out this weekend wish me luck!!!

The simulator should help but every individual is different as are the instructors. Hard to give you a solid answer.
Just go out there and have a good time whatever happens.
Don't forget your sunglasses , sunscreen and a hat. Charge EVERYTHING up good.

Of course! I made a list of things I need to get and forgot sunglasses! but I wear glasses, are there sunglasses for people who wear prescription glasses? should I just make a new topic?

maggot , your time on the Sim is a plus , it well help a bunch . But nothing is like the real thing. It`s a live, the sun and wind on your face. You`ll love it.
What are you going to fly? If its a trainer, your chances are good. If it`as a P-51 , a Funtana or similar , you find yourself with a hand full. Also when learning on your own , deep pockets are a prerequisite.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Try http://www.zurichsunglasses.com/index.html for sunglasses to fit over your normal glasses. Been wearing them for years.

I am training, with an instructor for the first time I'm thinking, on a semi-aerobatic trainer called the Midwest Aerobat. Got a great deal from a great guy at that field, everything but the rx/tx for $75.

No they are not. But if you take the time to read their website and check around with R/C pilots I believe you will find they are one of the most used sunglasses in the hobby. Their warranty speaks for itself when it comes to safety.

cool! they sound confident, they must be good, I recall a couple guys at the field have some that look like that, but they maybe just be look-a-likes.
